I agree with the pricing being to high. I said it earlier in the thread but seemed a lot of people didn't agree.

Craft beer is the only business that I can think of where profitability is deemed a mortal sin.

this is my first and potentially only ever DLD. I am going to try and do as many events as i can, and because of that i did not mind signing up for this. i agree its a little pricy, but last time i checked a steak on the vegas strip costs about 2x as much as a steak near philly. people pay more for the experience.

Nope, it's people voting with their wallet.

I wasn't talking about the prices of the event. I hope some type of enterinment comes with the price. I'm talking about the day to day business charging $11-$15 a bomber for a DIPA. Making the bottle purchases cash only when nobody is there. Prices on bombers are $3 more at a local store then the brewpub. It is on a smaller scale and they need to make money but they seem to be a little steep. If I go there to eat and drink 3 beers my bill with tip is in the mid 30s to 40s. That is high. The prices are higher then anything in the area including chicago. FFF BA beers are but they are crazy. You are right about a steak in Vegas but Gary, IN is the furtherest thing from Vegas. I would totally go to the event and pay for it all if I was from out of town. I paid for a lot of things on trips that you can say are overpriced.

I think the only reason they do "cash only" is to speed things up. Not arguing that 18th's beers aren't relatively more expensive than most places; I guess its the new math. And also economies of scale, of which they have none.

Anyone see what the mini snifter looks like? I'm surprised they only have four bottles for sale.

I was there a couple weeks ago when they had a bottle (forgot which one) that was cash only. I saw folks who were paying customers at the pub, drinking drafts and eating food and were told they couldn't add bottles to their tab because they were cash only.

Yeah, scratching my head on that one. I was referring to their prior "releases" like for Hunter et al...

I just don't get all the hate here for a business trying to make money. If you think something is too pricey don't go/buy it. Don't spew all this hate and butt hurt on here. No one is making you buy tickets to any beer event.

Hate is a pretty strong word. Not sure I'm seeing any "hate" at 18th Street here. In your defense you might have just come from viewing a TG thread though. In fact people seem to enjoy 18th Street's beers for the most part. I see people mostly expressing their opinions on 18th Street's pricing for packaged beer.

Point taken, just used the word didn't mean they literally hated 18th Street. Just don't understand all the complaining, business want to make money, if you think prices are too high simply don't buy the product.

See I look at 18th Street in similar terms as Pipeworks. I think there are many similarities between the two (and an obvious one ) and some differences too of course. To your point, both business want to make money I'm sure. In my mind, 18th Street's pricing (bombers particularly) seem to be priced higher across the board than what PW prices at, BA or otherwise. Perhaps it's the Gary real estate costs, I'm not sure. And I'm not complaining, I'm making an observation. You're right, if I think a price is too high, I will not purchase the beer. I'm more than happy to visit 18th Street and have a pint on draft & skip the bottle shop.

That certainly isn't what my post said that you quoted... Mine said the cost made it easy for me to not worry about going. They can charge what they want. Plenty of people will buy 2 12oz bottles for ~$45.

At least the quality of 18th backs up the higher pricing. Pipeworks is still just riding a fast dying hype train to justify their prices. Every month more and more Pipeworks sits on the shelves (minus most of the BA stuff).

There is a casino nearby, buy Gary, IN isn't quite the Las Vegas of the midwest. ;-)

In addition to the 4 bottles there seems to be something special going on - the admission card does have a scratch off. Not sure what for.
