Do you think this is a good idea if they can pull it off?

So I had this random idea last night, that's probably already been thought of. But I will share it anyway..

The idea is that HS and RS both get the opportunity to bring back one batch of beer that is no longer made. HS/RS members would get to vote on what beer they want to bring back, it would be a small batch made only available to society members, they could have a special release party with kegs of that beer available and the opportunity to purchase allocations. 3 bottles, 6 bottles whatever. But that beer could be re-branded "Fan Favorite", "Peoples Choice", or they could do either of those in French to make them sound fancier.

This eventually could become an annual thing. I know timing is very difficult especially with barrel aged stuff. So I'm not sure how realistic it is. For example, could they take the poll during society signups (Oct/Nov) and then brew, barrel (assuming it's BA), condition and release before the next year ends?

Maybe this all sounds crazy, but to me if they could pull it off, I think it could be awesome. With that being said, obviously there are downsides as well. Ultimately not 100% of people will be pleased with the final choice, but pleasing everyone is impossible anyway. Are the ingredients readily available for past brews, does their current infrastructure support a venture like this,etc..

Anyways, sound off here, let me know what you think. Who knows, maybe it will go nowhere. Or maybe a Bruery employee will see this, and discuss it at their next meeting and it could happen for 2016. Never know..

    Cheers,
    Tyler

I think it'd be a huge money maker. Why? Super rare beers to trade.

My question would be if it was chosen by the 2014 RS/HS members and say some RS dropped out or were upgraded to HS for 2015 would the allocations then be solely for the 2014 members and what they society level was at the time of choosing or would it fall under the 2015 society level?

Curious how much of a nightmare that could/would become with, you know, the 2014 buzzword "entitlement".

Aside from that, and sorry to rain on the parade, I personally think it would be a rather neat idea IF they could pull it off.

I don't think the beers would be renamed though, that could lead to confusion...somehow.

If they did that to ease confusion either make enough of the RS choice so that it can be offered to both RS and HS, and only make the HS choice only available to HS, or my preferred option which would be for maximum ease, just brew enough of both choices to make them available to each society. Regardless this seems like it would indeed be a good money maker for The Bruery.

Honestly I think if they did the vote in January, this could easily be ready by the end of the year as most barrel aged beers are only aged for 6ish months.

Lets be realistic too, most of us are going to vote for sours anyway so that should be easily turned around in a year if we vote early enough.

Side note - I wonder if there are some legal clauses with the collabs they do. Like they can't do them again without both parties signing on. Then we have to factor in which location the beer was actually made at. Sadly I don't think its as simple as just pick a beer and redo it, unless its a fully owned beer from the bruery.

I am a serious fan of the beer, whether most people are not doesn't bother me.

I vote for Beauregarde. That stuff is liquid golden sex.

I just want Run BMC back. Is that too much to ask for with the summer months (all 12 of them in SoCal) coming up?

Seriously, I bug them about making more Beauregarde every time I stop by to pick up allocations.

All good points @SDReaper @Ilpalazzo and @JoshBeerNow . I think they would probably have to give us a list of viable options we could pick from. Eliminating the ones that are no longer able to be produced (like the collabs if there are legal implications) or ones that require certain brewing methods they no longer use, or ingredients that can no longer be sourced. For the calendar year RS/HS thing, I think it would have to be based on what level you were when you cast your vote.

It took them seven months or so to pull off a fruited Berliner (and it didn't even come out well), I think you're being optimistic about how quickly they can brew, age, package, and QC a batch of beer.

That said, I really like the poll idea. Griffon Brux would easily be my vote.

If they did....no need to over complicate things. RS - picked beer X, HS - picked beer Y. Whatever Society you are in presently, you get X or Y respectively. If you switch Societies...either too bad so sad, or BONUS!.

Come on guys, us Hoarders pay top dollar for that right, of course we'll get a crack at buying both the RS pick and lord it over you that we get the HS one.

Well here is what you do. The beer gets made and is part of your normal allocations. Once registration is closed, and if its like last year its September, the members for the following year get to choose one for RS and one for HS, respectively. Then by the end of the year, or when its ready, those beers are given to you, and no additional bottles are available.

I know people may not like the ability to buy additional bottles, but if they know exactly how much they need to brew, they can hopefully get it done by the end of the year. Hopefully they would do a 2/4 for the RS and maybe 3 for the HS.

That being said, that is a LOT of extra beers included so they would have to adjust what we currently get to adjust for this.

The only problem with having bottles included with membership is that the cost of Run BMmone (presumably) vastly lower than the cost of Dirty Beaver Juice Weekend, meaning either The Bruery loses money making the most requested big beer, or members don't get as much bang for their buck in the event that a smaller beer is brewed.

For that to work, they'd have to limit the voting to one of their price tiers... Which could potentially annoy people. But people get annoyed at everything they do, so I hope that wouldn't stop them

Yeah...but realistically, there isn't a way to do this. I think the safest way is to have any bottle up to $20 be available.

The other thing to point out here is this is a great marketing tool. Everyone thinks they have an idea of what the most requested beer is but I doubt most people are right. With this, the business itself could quantify what people actually want and could use that data for future releases that are unrelated to this.

Paging @mattolesh - I'm sure you can't comment on the feasibility of this just by reading the thread but I think its worth while to point out that a lot of people are behind doing something like this. I know a lot of details would need to be worked out but since its early 2015 still, maybe its something that can be looked into for next year.

Cool idea. Interested if something like this would work. Also, I have another idea for RS/HS merchandise next year, since the hydroflask was a complete, leaky disappointment (at least in my experience).

Please do a picnic backpack in the same style as you did the growler bad, so basically something like this:

    http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-47...nsulated-wine-cooler.jsp?pfm=rrrecs-pdp-gtab1

with space for 2-3 bottles and 1-2 glasses. I'd love something like this for bicycle etc etc.
Oh, sorry for using your thread Tyler

Got to say I like the growler idea. If they stopped doing that I would assume they would stop doing the 32oz fills. They just need to get better growlers.
