I did almost the exact same thing in 2012. I was the very first person in the brewpub (besides employees of course) and 4 of my friends followed shortly behind and joined me (2 different tables though. 3 people at one table, 2 at another). Drank 1 of all the DL variants with the exception of the BVDL, I had 2 of those. Was pretty hammered after that and proceeded to enjoy the rest of the fest.

The bands haven't been too great, but for me it's definitely part of the experience and worth the cost of a ticket on its own. This year, yes, people will come for the bands. Obituary is awesome, and CoC is a pretty big deal. They haven't toured in a long time and Pepper Keenan and the rest of the old school lineup is together. I saw them in 95 when they opened for Megadeth. I've been listening to them ever since.

Thought I would add this info for 2015 on site ticket sales:

Tweet went out around 5:15 AM on 4/7/15

@kodt, just wanted to recognize you for putting together such a great thread. So many times people with isolated memories refer back to what their experience was like, commenting on current DLD threads. This will be great to look back on in the future.

I imagine you could turn this into some Wiki content that would be easily able to be scanned in the future

I thought this was actually bourbon barrel aged DL, though at the time it was called oak aged DL. I am not 100% about this.

I think you are correct, it was always Bourbon Barrel Aged, but they called it Oak Aged for the first several years. Can't confirm though.

FWIW, the listing on this site for Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Lord says "Formerly known as Oak Aged Dark Lord"

Also figure that 5 years ago before the bourbon barrel aged craze really took off, used bourbon barrels were much cheaper and easier to get than a new oak barrel. So it wouldn't have made much sense.

As a librarian who appreciates history, I just want to commend kodt for his work with this thread. If 3 Floyds ever developed a need for a business archivist, he'd surely fit the bill.

I have attended every DLD since 2005. I seem to remember that there were two pallets of Dark Lord for sale. No line and didn't sell out till the next day. Two case limit.

I believe that there were three 750ml bottles of BA Dark Lord raffled off in 2006.

2006 was my first year. Remember showing up around 9:00 (parked right next to the building attached to the brewpub) and we were the first ones there. Probably about 10-15 of us hanging out drinking some bottles and growlers before the "crowd" rolled in eventually. No chaos and was pretty laid back. 2007 was definitely when things started going downhill. I remember some old couple showed up just to drink "free" beer from all of the bottles on the tables. DL bottles getting stolen if they were left unattended for even a minute. Was still fun but you could tell things had changed.

Anyone have info on the event posters available at past DLDs? Good pics or artist info, # printings, etc. Also when did those start? I know there have been posters since 2013 but don't remember seeing them in years prior.

I have them going back to 2011 or 2012 I can't remember what year exactly. I have grabbed them at the pitchfork festival each time where Dan hangs out and sells a lot of his prints. I'd just contact him for a concrete answer.
