I'm having the Dorado from the bottle right now and am enjoying it even more than what i did at the brewery. This is a fantastic IIPA.

    As for the age stamp....

I'm not going to name any names, but i know several well-respected brewers who snicker at breweries who can't make a great IPA that ages gracefully. Not that a big IPA is gonna taste the same in 6 months as it does now, but it should still be good if not different.

Pliny the Younger was only OK fresh this year I thought. I was fortunate to try it again 2 and 3 months later (due to somebody holding back a keg) and it actually got better. Too bad RR forced everybody to serve it within 3 weeks. People really missed out on a fantastic beer.

It seems pretty straightforward to me. *shrug*

West Coast IPAs don't age gracefully. They simply get worse as time goes on.

I can't tell if you're being serious. Younger declines pretty rapidly. It certainly doesn't improve with three months time, which is the reason Russian River wants it to be served fresh. I'd like to know which of your "well-respected" brewer friends are snickering at Russian River.

There are basically 2 styles of IPA, the 'west coast' style which is bone dry, small malt backbone, very light and crisp in the body which allows the hops to punch you in the nuts. The 'older' style of IPA has a larger malt backbone, crystal malts and is 'darker', this larger body allows it to age. Of course it'll still be hoppy but the hops have to compete with the malts thus while they may have the same IBU level as a comparable 'west coast' style IPA, they won't seem as hoppy as your palete is also dealing with the malt profile. Sure these can 'age' better, but they're two different styles of beer with in the same catagory.

Since you live in San Diego, not quite sure which brewer is stating that IPA's should age well as pretty much every brewer cranks out what sells here: west coast style IPA's.

Expecting consumers who see two or more of your beers at a shop to know that the best by date on one is for 120 days and the other is for a year seems straight forward? And I'm all for a year out best by on big beers for stuff like Abyss or Black Butte XXetc, but it seems they should make an exception for an IPA. I'm not here to argue about when you should drink your IPAs, but if I found a bottle of Dorado say next May thinking oh this must be decently fresh with a best by date only a month away I would then be quite disappointed once I drank it.

Finally made its way in orange county. We opened a bottle during an afternoon homebrew sesh... It was big in all ways, but very balanced. Think sculpin with a kick in the hops.. Alc. is prevalent but not too hot.

I might have to put one on the trading block...it's that good!

I grabbed one at Whole Foods in Tustin (last one) and Total Wine in Brea had 5 cases of it in the cooler. Both places were limit one per customer.

Got one at the Bevmo in Orange yesterday. I saw an employee get one for a customer so I asked if I could get a bottle, he looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about but after some convincing he reluctantly grabbed me one. Apparently they only got one case so he told me, "Just don't tell anybody." But fuck that guy, everybody go to Bevmo in Orange and ask for Dorado.
