I love visiting breweries, and my birthday is coming up soon. I'm planning to visit as many of my favorite Boston-area breweries as possible on a Saturday, and would love any advice you guys have. It's basically a pub crawl to breweries instead of pubs. This tour will be completely driving-free, and mostly on foot. Really hoping for a nice day! After much deliberation, I've decided that I can realistically go to a maximum of about eight Boston/Cambridge/Somerville breweries in one day. I may incorporate Sam Adams, Aeronaut and even Jack's Abby into a similar shindig at a later date.

Here's my planned itinerary: Start at Harpoon > Trillium > Mystic > Idle Hands > Night Shift > American Fresh Taproom > Bantam > Cambridge Brewing Company. We may have to switch the order of Bantam and American Fresh Taproom because Bantam closes at 7 on Saturdays. Because I want visit all of these places in the same day, I'm not sure I'll have time for brewery tours at Harpoon, Night Shift, or Mystic. Are any of these tours definitely worth it?

I'd appreciate any advice, as this is a total experiment on my end. Cheers and beers!

This has to be a joke/troll thread.

Nope, I'm dead serious. I realize this is a really aggressive itinerary for one day, but I'm convinced it's doable.

Trillium has no samples or tastings.

I know, it's too bad that's the case. Many of my friends are hoping to fill growlers and/or pick up bottles from Trillium, however, so stopping here is a must.

the Mystic > Idle Hands > Night Shift part will get real hairy probably if you're dedicated to MBTA/Walking. Especially Mystic since it's not really near any T stops...

I'd go something like Harpoon > Trillium > Bantam > Cambridge Brewing Company > American Fresh Taproom > Night Shift. Even that is more than a full day. You'll probably be stupid drunk by the time you leave CBC.

Harpoon > Trillium > Bantam > Cambridge Brewing Company > Lord Hobo/Meadhall/Bukowski/Aeronaut would be a better option. Night Shift's taproom is a killer hangout spot though.

Agree on the Mystic/Idle Hands/Night Shift travel plans...unless you get an Uber or something every time.

Aeronaut would be fun, and close to T stops.

Def do Trillium and buy beer...you can drink a lot at Harpoon in their sweet beer hall haha, lots of fun.

You're better off just doing CBC/Lord Hobo/Meadhall/Bukowskis Cambridge honestly...oodles of fun and many beers.

I've started at Lord Hobo late afternoon (nice and quiet) for some of the more exotic/high abv/heavy hitters with appetizers. Then headed to CBC for dinner/drinks, then finished at Meadhall, which should accommodate a larger crowd later at night, and is the largest of the three places.

Plus, then you can hop right on the T. We did this for a birthday a few years ago, worked out great.

Bonus fact: The Idle Hands facility also houses Enlightenment Ales so you get a two-for-one! Love the Enlightenment Brut and Rite of Spring. Have fun!

@PatriotsRule - If you come from downtown area (post Trillium) you can hop on the Wellington Orange Line T stop and then its a 10 minute walk to our brewery. Idle Hands/Enlightenment is less than 1 mile away from us so you can easily walk there too. Enjoy your Brewery Crawl!

This itinerary sounds overly aggressive to say the least, but if you're up for it, two items to note:

-1- Mystic brewery is an easy bus ride from downtown Boston. Pick up the #111 bus, which runs every 10 minutes or so, at the Haymarket Station. Get off just after you cross the Tobin Bridge. Here's a map. Getting back into town is easiest via another stop. (If you're not familiar with Chelsea, best to have a smartphone with these directions, or print them out in advance.)

-2- Slumbrew's mini-brewery is now open. It's not that far from Bantam's tap room. Might want to go here and cut your visit to the American Fresh Taproom.

Row 34 is next to Trillium and usually has Trillium on tap. Last May they had James Bean on tap!

I know Allagash but one of my favorites and lets you know how good Row 34s tap list can be at times.

Thanks for all of your helpful feedback @everyone! Good call (location-wise) on the Slumbrew mini brewery, @huuvola! Looking forward to it. Anyone have any insights as to which tours are best?

For my information please. Is there any sort of commuter rail or anything that could get me out to jacks Abby? I'm going to be in town starting tomorrow but without a car and would love to get some of their framinghammer variants that I believe come out this week.

I guess an easier question would be: if I'm in Boston this week without a car, is there any way to get the jacks Abby framinghammer variants?

Actually... Looks like I may be off by a week. Disregard this if I am. Sorry

Coffee and vanilla were available in the taproom on Saturday when I was there. Cocoa-nut is expected to be released tonight.

If you don't mind walking half a mile or so, you could take the commuter rail to West Natick, then walk about a half mile along Waverly Street to the brewery. There are plenty of ways to get to West Natick; I'd suggest putting your hotel (or wherever you're staying) into Google Maps, then using the "transit" mapping function. That should give you the most direct way.

It's not ideal, but it will get the job done if you're very interested in visiting the brewery. I haven't personally done it, but I know the stop is very close, and I don't see why it wouldn't work. Best of luck.

Thanks for the train info, that's exactly what I was looking for. One more question. Will they be doing bottle sales at the brewery or is it simply available on tap (I'm coming from ATL and in georgia breweries cannot sell to the public - so I don't know how jacks abby operates)

    Thanks!!

They sell bottles at the brewery. Coffee and Vanilla may still be in stores, may be worth calling around. Where are you staying in Boston?

Staying in brookline, getting in today. Was planning on hitting jacks abby tomorrow. Another thread seemed to think they'd have bottles of the cocoanut for at least a few days, so fingers crossed
