true, but reality is reality. I have no possible way of justifying paying a minimum of 6-8 bucks for one beer, of which i could probably buy a sixer of that same beer for a couple of dollars more. I.E. SNPA. sigh

Relax. Bar prices are usually twice as high because it's usually going to be shared between two people or more. Its worth it, for the moment, that what you're paying for, the memory.

I get the idea. And people can chose how to spend their money obviously. I am not out at bars constantly, but if I am I usually get something I can't often find in a store. In DC proper, that can happen a lot.

Standard shelf IPAs run about $3-$3.50 per bottle retail and about $6-$7 in a bar. Same difference.

Can I save some similar beers and sell them to this place, even at half price? Wow.

That's nothing. CraftBeerKings was having a cellar sale this weekend and had a couple different vintages of Utopias selling for $459 (2012) and $499 (2011) apiece. And that's not even bar pricing--that's retail. Unsurprisingly, both are still available if you have $500 to burn.

And to be quite honest, Utopias is so unbelievably good--good enough to the point of giving me pause about passing it over--but at the end of the day I just can't justify spending half a grand on 750 mL of beer.
