come on... really? I stand behind a good amount of your opinions, but this is silly. It is called a nickname. Dr. Dre is not a medical doctor either, and Sir-Mix-alot was not knighted. He does not arrive at medical emergencies and say "have no fear, I am a doctor!"

I really like Bill. He is always fun to talk to at events.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I think the distinction Levitation is making is a BA handle is a pseudonyms while Dr. Bill goes by Dr. Bill as his everyday name (to the beer public at least). I really don't care, but that's the distinction I see.

I know, I just felt like being facetious. I find it hilarious that someone would care enough about another person's nickname that they would actually go on a tirade about it.

True, it is what he is called, but it is just a nickname. A lot of people have them and they are big in certain communities/cultures (military being one of those). And on his card he goes by "Dr." Bill Sysak. I think that clearly shows it is a nickname. Plus I doubt when someone is introduced to him they say, "oh nice to meet you, next time I need a prostate exam I will give you a call"

The nickname was earned as a combat medic in the military.

So, Levitation, if you've served our country in a greater capacity I'd love to hear about it.

Well, in the military, medics typically go by Doc. Not Dr.

    Just playing devil's advocate. :stuck_out_tongue:

<--- has served in the Army for 6 years as a paratrooper in the infantry, still serving.

Wait a minute....Dr. Dre isn't a real doctor?!! So, you're saying I shouldn't be smoking all this chronic? WTF

Hang on, you put Beverage Supervisor in quotes. Does this mean he's not really that either?

    caught me red handed

for those who really are confused. On his card "Dr" is in quotes. His title (Beverage Supervisor) is not, I just put it in quotes because that is his official position at Stone.

Well, since we're being specific with words, I wouldnt say in the military medics typically go by Doc, i would say the army does.
Just playing the Devill Dog's advocate. We use Naval Corpsman. (corpsman/medic, dr/doc... just pass a pint, and not just a full pour)

difference between dr. dre is that he doesn't have a medical background - iow, you can tell it's a stage name. for "dr." bill to be a former medic and then to call himself a dr., even justifying it by BEING a former medic, is ridiculous.

i haven't been impressed with "dr" bill since the stone sour fest where he took a swig of beer and misted it across the audience. that was total rock star bullshit, and i look at his nickname not as an affectation but as an extension of his ego.

straw man. i made a short post, not a tirade. i am since then defending it because i was asked to.

ad hominem tu quoque, not bothering with this one.

So if you have nothing to do with the medical field ever other people can give you the nickname Dr. But if you have a past history as a Medic in the millitary and workign in the medical field other people cannot give you the nickname Dr?

I have no idea why you have to rag on him because of a nickname. Typically nicknames are given. They are all in fun. If you do not like it, fine, he also goes by Bill.

I have been to sour fest the past 3-4 years, and I did not see the incident you are talking about. But if he was having fun, and everyone else was having fun what is it to you? Same with people who hate on Greg Koch just because he is having fun. People relax, other people have fun doing different things, let them do what they want, it is not negatively affecting anyone.

You complaints about him seem really shallow. Numerous people have gotten on here and talked about how he has done great things for the beer community, he is a great person to talk to, and he is very generous. Yet you come on and complain about a nickname and some fun gesture he did with friends and fans?

We finally got to the truth. Its a 'he acts like a rock star' thing moreso than a disdain for a nickname thing, I/he did more with my life thing than I/he did thing, misplaced latin and/or legal doctrine thing.

I'd be pretty pissed if I got spit on too. Or if I watched someone else get spit on for no reason.

So did you confront the Dr. at the time you were both present? Or is this, on the internet the first time you've addressed the issue?

did other people give it to him or did he assign it to himself? my guess is the latter.

if you didn't see the spitting on people, why would you assume it was on friends and fans?

it's both. the nickname is an expression of it.

i said something about it on ba at the time. but judging from the people coming to his defense here, i don't think it would have been wise to say something about it in person. people with deep cellars tend to get away with a lot in the beer world.
