As the most anticipated one of the series, not as expected. I find it thin.

Maybe the base flavors will pop more with age as the bourbon mellows, but it appears there isn't much under it. I've had two on consecutive days, the first after a Cockeyed Cooper the night before (the difference is drastic) The Cooper blows it away on all levels. I found more flavor in the second one, the next day, with more of an open mind. But so far by this thread, price is key.

I really think Cockeyed Cooper is an extremely solid beer and it wastes away on the shelves. 2012 can still be found on the shelves in Vegas.

I taste more oak/bbl than anything. And it's awesome.

My guess would be yes, but I'll tell you what someone else told me...give them a call. It'll take less than 30 seconds to confirm in case you're thinking about going there.

This beer is nothing short of fantastic, and retailing at $12\6pk, it's a game changer. Love to see others follow suit! Bravo Bells!!

It's not - or at least, it wasn't when I was there around 6 PM today. They did still have Jupiter and Mercury though, if anyone's still looking.

I called when they opened on Tuesday and was told that they sold out and won't be getting any more.

Finally hit the loop. Tried one last night.

People are right in the comparison to CW BBBW. Saturn is like a less hoppy version of that. It's decent, but likely needs a couple years.

I had decent hopes for Saturn, but it let me down. Had a bottle last night, and in my opinion, it didn't hit any of the flavor points of a good BA barleywine. No barrel character (especially vanilla) besides some bourbon, super malty which isn't hidden/blended well with the bourbon profile. Overall a harsh beer that I felt was a bad representation of the style. I'm thankful that the price on the bottle was low, and wouldn't buy another.

I still think Venus was the best of the series so far.

Can't tell if you are trolling, based on:

"I still think Venus was the best of the series so far."

For the cost, and availability, Saturn is great.

I'm not sure either, though I've always thought the hivemind here was way too critical of Venus. I kinda liked it. So far, I think my Planet's rankings are:

    1. Mars
    2. Saturn
    3. Venus
    4. Jupiter
    5. Mercury

To be fair, there is a pretty big gap between 2 and 3. I'm sure Neptune will be great, and Uranus will probably be a good BIPA, though it's not a style I generally like.

No, I honestly think Venus is the only one from the series that I would drink again. It was unique. Everything else I felt was overpriced for something basic and boring. Mars could have been good if it wasn't distro'd here when it was over a month old. Pure malt bomb.

Saturn might be more available in Michigan, but everywhere here sells it by the single bottle and has very little of it. Even if it was more available, I'd pay more for a better beer all day long. Uinta, CW, Lakefront, Surly, GI, Alesmith, Sierra Nevada, etc all make BA barleywines that are much better than Saturn. Not having a smooth vanilla flavor from the barrel really hurt it.
