Depends ENTIRELY on the wholesaler who sells to each area. Basically, any wholesaler can allocate a beer based on whatever system they want. What is most common is allocating based on total CEs of Goose Island, but there are special instances. If a store sells, for example, 1000CEs of Goose which is tops in the wholesaler's YTD sale, but its all IPA/312/Honkers and its not a very craft-centered store, they may choose to move some or all of their supply of BCBS to a store that sells maybe 200CEs but carries the full line and has built a customer base that seeks out more limited beers.

It's funny that your rep is weird about returns... Our rep came in and cleaned up everything out of date / close to it / discontinued some slow moving items. Probably about 50 cases in total by the time he was done. Can I ask what distribution company it was?

I could get a 4-pack less than 2 miles from me right now. Many places in NYC and LI still have that and the BW. The coffee was pretty easily obtainable for about 2 weeks after release, but I only bought it once because $15/12 oz. was a huge price increase from last year. It's nowhere to be found now, except for some on draft every 2-3 weeks (within a 1 hour radius). VR was gone from anywhere it reached almost instantly.

The regular is still sitting on the shelves at the store next to my house... $5 per bottle.

I think you are right BUT in my case the local Bud/InBev/GI distributor also handles Sam Adams (distribution) and at least one local by me sells little to no GI (doesn't even have a rack for it) and got 5 cases of BCBS + odds and end variant wise. His comment to me was that it was based on his volume from the InBev distributor. So at least at this one local in NY it's not entirely tied to GI but more to the whole distributor's array (and Sam's seems to sell big at this place). This is a store that is in between 3 colleges so he also sells bud products by the ton too.

Total Wine got multiple restocks over the course of a few weeks/months. It helps that I work a mile away and visit 3+ times per week on my lunch I guess...

 

One local beer shop carries it, but it's all gone within days.
