This 100%. It's south of the park by a few blocks so all the bozo's don't really venture that way. Best tap list by far around that area. Awesome BBQ.

Definitely Sheffields but if you're looking for something right outside the field then Murphys is your spot. However, it tends to get very crowded as its right outside of the outfield bleachers. Here's an idea of what Murphys tap list looks like: https://www.beermenus.com/places/1110-murphy-s-bleachers

Another vote for Sheffields for a place a bit away from the madness, but close enough. Another nearby place that usually has a number of good beers on tap is the Gingerman. It's a bit more laid back than some of the other nearby options.

I'd agree with Sheffield's first and foremost. If you're walking in the other direction (north), Bar on Buena always has good beers on tap as well.

Both good choices, and I would imagine that Goose Island's Wrigleyville location will have a nice beer list within the next month or two (they were closed down since last season due to a leasing dispute, so they're still putting together their taps). Here's their current list, which is admittedly nothing impressive:

Went to Sheffield's this passed Saturday and that place has fallen so far and hard from its former glory it's terrifying.

The BBQ is not great, I wouldn't even put it at good and the beer selection was entirely forgettable.
But if you're a raging "Dude / Bro" you're gonna LOVE Sheffield's and their cooked-to-rubber Brisket!

I'd head North up Clark on the 22 bus and hit spots in Andersonville or East to Bar on Buena before ever considering Sheffield's again.

I haven't been lately, but still heard good things from someone I think is pretty well regarded and he was still very impressed with the beer selection and quality. If you're right, that would be sad. I've never had a bad experience there.

I've got a buddy who works at Sheffield's, so I go there if I'm in that neighborhood. Definitely not one of the best beer bars in the city but near the top for that area. There food (including the BBQ) has never done too much for me, its really just a couple notches above typical bar food. But one nice thing is that it is often overlooked by beer geeks. So if they tap something really good on a weekday, it usually lasts longer than other places.

Sheffield's is definitely the way to go if you're out of town and looking for somehwere close. I'd hardly say their beer selection is forgettable, at least when considering the neighboring bars. Compared to the other close options (I haven't been to Bar on Buena, though), it's selection is leaps and bounds better.

DryHop or Kumas are close enough to the stadium and are much better than Sheffields, which I agree, has fallen off big time.

Sheffield's is a good suggestion with at least a solid taplist (can't speak to the food) and a nice outdoor area. It is also on beermenus so you can check what is on tap before going.

Other solid places that haven't been mentioned that likely won't be too crowded with fans/obnoxious drunks include: Blokes and Birds has some decent to good things and has a brewery of the month for $5 (May is Deschutes) and is on Clark a couple of blocks south. Replay has around 25 taps usually with some decent options and free arcade games and also a decent outdoor area, on Halsted a few blocks south.

Places close to Wrigley (and thus more crowded) include Murphy's which will be very crowded and Nisei which will be less crowded. Both are on beermenus but don't update frequently.

Sheffield's has fallen off?...bite your tongue sir! Sheffields has delicious food, a great beer garden and the taps are hard to beat anywhere in Chicago on most days. I moved a block away specifically for Sheffield's, so I may be a bit bias.

Guthrie's is a few blocks west of Wrigley and doesn't suck. You can bring in food and they specialize in board games, whatever the hell that means.

And if you have a little time go a couple miles north to Hopleaf, that place definitely doesn't suck for beer or food.

I have been to Guthrie' once. They have a shelf full of board games. You grab one, sit down and play it while drinking beer.

If you are driving Fountainhead is less than 10 minutes away from Wrigley at Damen and Montrose. They always have an oustanding list of draft beers there and a huge selection of bottled beers too.
