We must be drinking different beers.

My thought too. I thought it was one of their better stouts.

The stout has potential and I think it will age gracefully into some great flavors. Bold and boozy now, and yes, already aged in a barrel...that gave no character to the beer.

I just don't understand why people would continue to support Prairie and their $12 (and rising) barrel aged stouts when Legion and Goose Island and Founders make comparable beers for half the price.

Maybe you should ask yourself that question, as you apparently ran out and bought it.

Its tough...I really enjoyed Noir, Vanilla, Coffee, Brimstone, Pirate and ABN but this one takes a huge hit in my confidence in purchasing more than two. Now, when Vanilla comes back around...I'm back to purchasing chingos

For this reason I'm mostly one & done on their beers, enjoy trying them. Honestly if it was like the old days just a few years ago; I would just buy Abyss, KBS & BCBS. I can't find those beers on the shelf any more. I did pick up a couple bottles to age, since I came across them.

I haven't bought any OK-Si. People I trust told me it was mediocre and overpriced, I passed on purchasing any of it.

    Ahh, come on.

I agreed with you until you said that. You said "This is not worth the price. Barely any barrel character at all." LOL! ??

For OKC folk...bottles at Broadway Wine as of close today, although not many unless they had more in the back. They also had a few cases of KBS...which blew my mind coming from the east coast. Drinking an Ok-Si at Tapwerks now (bottle) and anyone saying no barrel character is either a) lying b) nuts or c) unfamilar with tequilla barrels and beer.

Scout you're the second person to say that they got tequila barrels. I consider myself a tequila aficionado (snob nose up) and I believe you. However, I got no barrel or tequila in it...I'm assuming bottle variance???

I got no Tequila at all until the very back end...and what I got wasn't pleasant.

Odd...although Prairie has definitely had QC issues for me before so maybe that's it. The tequila was well done in the bottle I had.

Had a 2nd bottle last night and sure enough, it was gold tequila barrels all the way. I took a swig out of the bottle with what was left from the pour into the snifter and got a ton of gold. Then tried with the snifter, not so much. Then poured into the Old Guardian glass and got a lot of tequila. Very interesting...I still say bottle variance because Mon night's bottle had zero tequila and zero barrel.

There's tequila there without a doubt. Some might not drink enough tequila to notice but it's pretty identifiable if you do. If anything, I get more barrel from this than any of their other beers (excluding Wine Barrel Noir). Still not sure why people are complaining about barrel subtlety from Prairie. All of their barrel aged beers I've had are subtle. I doubt that's going to change.

I don't get what's wrong with barrel subtlety. If I wanted a beer that tasted strongly like whiskey I'd just put whiskey in my beer. That's not what I want. And if it tasted too much like Tequila people would complain it was too hot and it needs a few years.

Quite frankly I don't even try most Boulevard barrel aged offerings fresh any more for that reason. Just too muuch barrel/heat for the Imp Stout & BBQ for my liking
