So I made this trade: I sent Parabola, Sucaba, Black Tuesday, 2 Modern Times 4packs, 1 ThrillSeeker, and 1 Hammerland to a trader in NY for 1 BCBCS, Crooked Stave Prog. Noir, Serenata Notturna, DFH120, Pizza Boy Golden Sour, 1 KBS, 2 Back. Bastards, and 2 SMS. Now we were $4$, so don't worry about that...so my package arrived safely and his did not. Fedex shipped his box back and he lost the BCBCS, DFH120, and an SMS. He said he would be able to replace all except the BCBCS and offered substitutes. Well, here's what's bothering me: He got my package safe, I shipped quicker, and he got Parabola and Black Tuesday which is scarcer than any of his and landing better beers. The BCBCS was one of the reasons I made the trade in the first place.
Seems like an awfully big trade for not having any trades under you. You should have just tried to make a trade for just bcbcs with parabola, sucaba, or BT. dont see why you wouldnt have been able to lock down a 4 pack with some of those.
Ok, I should have said this first (forgive me), the trade occured on a different forum, I just came here to discuss since this is more a "forum" where it can be discussed. Please don't focus on my join date and noobness on this particular forum.
I didnt even look at that, but thats funny. He probably made this trade through FB or IG and joined here for advice.
Worse case if there's no making it up in your eyes..ask him to send your beers back. Shouldn't be a problem. .sucks but ultimately it's a solution if that's what the dude is interested in. I know I ship bottles I can't replace occasionally and I worry. I always make sure not to drink my box until everything's good in case my trade partner wants his beers back in a case like this. I would hope I could work out something else but would be good either way.. (except for the loss of my beers and xtra shipping)
Stick to trading on BA and you can make use of the trader feedback option. Not a guarantee in any way but might have helped in a similar situation had the trade occurred here.
I would say if you are not happy with the substitutes he is offering tell him that you need him to find another bcbcs or send you your beers back.
Did you get tracking info and watch your box as it started it's journey? Are you worried it was never sent as well?
agreed, to an extent. every trade I arrange on FB I move over here for protection purposes, every single trader I've encountered there is a member here. so just because you agreed someplace else doesn't mean you both can't agree to move the trade over here for communication and feedback purposes.
If he can't make you whole or find something you agree to, he needs to send your beers back. It's on the sender to make sure the agreed-upon beers make it to where they're supposed to go. And considering the way this "community" has been going the past couple years, you ought to out the guy if neither of the above happens.
Its 1 bottle of BCBCS, surely he can come up with something desirable to replace it? It seems like the contents of this trade were pretty much all over the place anyway
You didn't say it, but I inferred that his box was damaged? The way I look at it is this...if you were in his shoes, having already lost 3 beers, cost of shipping to CA from NY (probably $30+), and now will cost another $30 to reship as well as coming up with replacement bottles, how would you like your trade partner to treat you? My guess is that you'd probably be really happy that he accepts something of equal value even if he's not too crazy about it and you'd probably be thankful because of his understanding and maintain/build a trade relationship with him. Tell you what, ask him to sign up on BA, send me a PM for my information and email me me a shipping label, I'll ship a BCBCS '14 to you so he won't need to come up with any replacement.
A generous BA here indeed! My thoughts to the OP are... how would you feel if someone backed out of a trade because this happened to you? If you ship enough, it will happen, it's not an if. No need to worry though, looks like @mythaeus has the BCBCS covered!
No, he did give me the tracking info and I follow it all the way, it made it all the way to my state before Fedex declared it a damaged box.
Super generous, but totally unnecessary. This is a great community, I think I'll switch to here for future trades.
Well it's his responsibility to get his box to you safely, priority one. He either gives Up a suitable replacement or returns your box back to you. That's it. We all ship beer we can't replace, so you use a bigger box and more packing, even less xtras in favor of packing material. I don't usually sweat the xtras when shipping big bottles I can't replace, I want to I make sure the trade bottles get where they need to be safely. If there's safe room then I add what I can, but I also communicate this too. It's also why you don't drink a guys beer before your box gets there safely. Shit happens, I've lost a box, but I've learned a lot by losing that box too.
