Hi everyone. On I picked up this beer today. You can see in the collage the floaties starting to show themselves. Then this. What a terrible looking beer. Before I review it I am going to open a another bottle. Tastes good though and so Cheers!

@utopiajane It is the hop particles, mine looked similar. I like beers with undissolved hops

    Maria,

There is some discussion about the beer haze in some bottles of Backseat Berner on the Otter Creek website (see copied below). As you will read they think they have a solution such that haze will not be an issue in future batches.

I had zero ‘floaties’ in the 6-pack that I purchased.

    Cheers!

    Jack

    “Greetings!

We’ve pulled the first dosage of Backseat Berner and Over Easy from our stash and we’re stoked to get these brews into your hands and in your glass.

By now, you’ve probably heard the buzz surrounding these chronically killer beers. If not, you should drop what you’re doing and grab a sixer to see for yourself.

A product of the collective freak show that keeps this place running, we pulled out all the stops –from dozens of test batches on our pilot brewing system to countless hours of sensory analysis- to deliver two brews that are worthy of the Otter Creek name.

Through some solid test batches —and a few not-so-stellar attempts— our brew crew and quality assurance team have had their hands in every stage of the creative life cycle that sprouted these offerings.

With Backseat Berner, we learned Clementine isn’t the only one that needs a tune-up before it’s road ready. As it hit the market this week, we noticed a “beer haze” that has developed after it was transferred to the bottle.

From the tank, this deliberately dank brew is a perfectly bright, orange hue. After 7-14 days in the bottle, however, proteins and polyphenols begin to react and flake out, not unlike some folks I’ve known in the past.

Characterized by visible sediment, or “floaties,” this haze has been on our radar since we began cranking out more and more hoppy, unfiltered beers over the past year or so.

In our efforts to solve this challenge, we reached out to some industry peeps to help us achieve clarity in both our beers, and our minds. As it turns out, floaties are more common than one might think, especially in the craft beer industry, and we unearthed a wealth of knowledge among our buds.

Through meetings, messages and some mess-ups, we picked up on some new tricks and techniques to help us deliver a more consistent product, and we are confident that we have developed a solution.

Unfortunately, there is some Backseat Berner that, since leaving the brewery, has developed some funky aesthetic characteristics that, simply put, aren’t the kind of visuals we were going for. While unappealing to some, this sediment is merely an aesthetic issue that will not affect the loaded hop flavors of this beer. As we work toward solving this optical confusion, we will continue to brew and package Backseat Berner.

We set out to create brews that we can hang our hat (or bandana) on. While the floaties in Backseat Berner look like a shaken-up lava lamp, the flavor is all there, and we’re stoked to continue our cosmic journey with this killer IPA paving the way.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. Until next time, we hope you’ll hop on the bus and take a pull from our stash!

    Cheers,

    Mike Gerhart, Brewmaster”

It's happened quite a few times to me with their beers. Floaties everywhere!

Why hello, where is this? Nice breakfast beer. Did you happen to stumble upon any BBADS with some blue wax?

    Cheers!

isn't that great! Good for them. You know as i am writing my review I am thinking , would I like this more without the floaties? The honest answer is - that while I know it's just looks I would rather they were not there. It actually tastes pretty great and I noticed some folks comparing it to heady topper. It does have a heady like quality in the drink. What I am going to call a permeating bitterness amidst flavorful citrus.

    Cheers Jack!
