I'm heading to LA this weekend... I've never been. I'm asking the BA Community for suggestions of good beer stores in the Palos Verdes Estates area?

You know http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/ works pretty well.
For bottles I would check out:

    Select Beer Store
    Riviera Village Music
    1613 S Pacific Coast Hwy
    Redondo Beach, CA 90277

    No 1 Liquor Mart
    1520 Aviation Blvd
    Redondo Beach, CA 90278

For a bar I would go to:

    Naja's Place
    154 International Boardwalk
    Redondo Beach, CA 90277

Smog City, Monkish, & The Dudes are all pretty close (and walking distance from each other) and if you like sours don't dare miss out on checking out Phantom Carriage!

Highland Park has become my official pick for most mandatory beer stop in LA. They are pouring some of the best beer in California.

Could you expand on this? I am visiting LA soon as well - would love some local tips! thanks!

Expand? LA is spread out. Which part of LA are we talking about. West LA? Long Beach area? Hollywood? Santa Monica? Pasadena? Or we can expand out into the OC and IE areas? Poster said he'll be in the Palos Verdes Estates area. That pretty much narrows it down.

oh no, I meant like... what's Highland Park? It looks like an area... but maybe it's a name of a brewery, beer bar, or... some community... I wasn't sure what Dansac was talking about, so I wanted him to expand on what he was trying to say.

This pretty much nails it, but I'll add that you could also head over to Long Beach for Beechwood.

    Hermosillo. Highland Park Brewery.

Highland Park is a neighborhood, but he's referring specifically to Highland Park Brewing, who are pretty new and very awesome. They operate out of a bar called The Hermosillo, which functions as their tasting room and also has a few good guest taps. It's definitely worth a stop, if you have the time and a car. I love HPB as well, but I still think Beachwood is my #1 stop in the greater LA area, then the Smog/Monkish/Phantom Carriage South Bay trifecta then HPB very close behind, but I also probably take HPB for granted since I live within walking distance and am there all the time.

it is also an area / neighborhood, to answer your question.

    srsly beat me to it.

speaking of Highland Park, if i were going to have a midlife crisis and change careers, i would open a bottle shop on York. it's an absolute no brainer. basically like Sunset Beer, except for the Highland Park / Eagle Rock / Mt Wash neighborhoods. Sunset Beer must be making a killing. and i bet a lot of craft people in that area actually go to Sunset Beer to buy stuff

i hope i don't regret giving away my brilliant idea (not really, i bet someone is already doing it)

    Sry.

To continue this digression, though: I thought that new storefront on York next to VapeGoat was going to be a bottle shop, but it turns out it's going to be another craft beer bar (http://la.eater.com/2015/3/30/8312643/block-party-highland-park-craft-beer-bar-coming-plywood).

The area does need a bottle shop pretty desperately. Has anyone been to the new one in Lincoln Heights yet? (http://www.lamag.com/digestblog/lin...-shop-for-craft-beer-and-enormous-sandwiches/)

i have been to that one actually. nothing spectacular, but not a bad selection either. if i lived in Lincoln Heights i'd be happy to have it there. want to try their sandwiches

Nice. Since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere I assume you can't open bottles there, right? Because that could make it awesome, a la Stuffed Sandwich/Hollingsheads.

Great suggestions. I agree to check "places" for bottle shops, there are quite a few that are spread out. In terms of breweries, surprised beechwood bbq hasnt been mentioned yet, it's usually the first.:stuck_out_tongue: I also agree on the Phantom Carriage, Smog City, and Highland Park Brewing suggestions. All worth going to. :sunglasses:

Also, there is a brewery worth visiting in the San Fernando Valley, while often forgotten panned or maligned (the SFV, not the brewery) and that's MacLeod Ale Brewing in Van Nuys. Their focus is cask ale, and their dang delicious too.

Main point to take away though, is not only is Los Angeles huge, traffic is a very serious thing to take into account if one wants to cross large area's.

I personally find Highland Park better than Beachwood, or. Phantom Carriage!

    1UP
    Sun soaked
    Pfriem spaceship
    Lazy Susan

These are on par with stuff. I've had from Anchorage, Prairie. And other big makers.

Omg guys. So I visited HPB yesterday and it was so awesome. I did a flight of 4 beers (Uncontrollable, Yard Beer, 1UP, and their Bu Weisse) and had a bottle of their pale ale with brett! Sorry cant remember the names but great stuff.

Thank you for the recommendation! Uncontrollable was just amazing!

Just got back from my LA trip. In addition to HBP, I visited the following 7 breweries (in 1 day):

    El Segundo
    Smog City
    Monkish
    Phantom Carriage
    Beachwood
    Bottle Logic
    Noble Aleworks

All were pretty awesome and I recommend all seven. There were a couple more I would have liked to hit up but there is always next time! Cheers!
