I was looking to trade for abraxas. Have never had it before. Then I was telling a buddy of mine that I was going to pursue it with a certain beer I have from a certain festival. He said just wait for it to release again because it fades alot. What are your guys experiences with abraxas because I always try to have beer at optimal conditions.

Now I realize everyone's taste buds are different. Some really appreciate age on certain beers which I do with certain beers. But I think with abraxas the point is to taste the cinnamon, peppers, vanilla and Chocolate. So that's what I'm going for.

What are your guys opinions that have had abraxas multiple times including quite fresh and recently?

Check the collaring forum, might be some stuff there.

I did find some feedback there. Thank you. Sometimes I just ask the question because prob 75% of the time I can't find what I'm looking for. But this time I did.

I find that the flavors hold true for about 6 months on Abraxas, after that the fade is very slow. I would venture that at this point its still plenty flavorful and a trade wouldn't be a bad idea. Just my 2 cents

Fresh is better but I think 5 months is still fresh enough. I have one that's 17 months old and I'm nervous I will regret waiting so long.

One of my favorite brews and truly worth seeking out on draft or in package.

The pepper probably fades, never had Abraxas, but I can make a parallel to Mexican Cake. It's better fresh IMO, and it fades even when kept dark and cold.

Have had it fresh, and had 2013 on tap last week - the 2013 wasn't as good. Seemed like the adjuncts fade at different rates and it doesn't taste quite as balanced... The cinnamon was a lot weaker and didn't meld with the pepper as well as it does fresh.

I would say that the pepper fades substantially somewhere between 6 months and a year. The cinnamon stays for at least 2 years, but after one it really melds into the stout and becomes more subtle.

The weekend of FOBAB I tried the 2014, 2013, and vanilla variant on tap. My whole group picked the 2013 as the favorite. Cinnamon had mellowed and all the flavors were perfectly melded. So I say go for it.

I think Abraxas holds up pretty well from my experience.

Drank a 2011 bottle last Oct. No bueno. It was AWFUL. Everything was faded and it wasn't very enjoyable.
