I had one last night and I'm more in agreement with you than the other poster who said there was "LOTS of coffee." Don't know if this is helpful since you're not used to our distro but, to me, it's very much like Pisgah Valdez only with a bit lighter mouthfeel (obviously since we're talking porter vs. stout) and weaker coffee flavor. I like it all right but I kind of wish I'd waited to find a single rather than grab a whole 4-pack since I like a more coffee-forward beer.

Perhaps the draft is a bit different which is what I had. I got some nice coffee notes but nothing toasty or too malty. Compared to Valdez the mouthfeel is completely different as you mentioned. Valdez had a thicker texture and a more chocolate cocoa powder taste. Some very nice earth tones from the coffee thanks to their Dynamite partners. I'm curious about the can C4C now and may pick some up to try. Draft was solid IMO. Cheers!

Yeah, it's interesting to see big variations on local beers using coffee with regards to draft vs. can/bottle. I had Valdez on-tap last year and the coffee was dominant but, when the cans came out last fall, the coffee wasn't as prevalent. I've also had Mystery Brewing's Six Impossible Things in a bottle and, if it didn't say so on the label, I wouldn't have thought for a second it was a coffee stout because I got minimal coffee notes off it. But I've heard from multiple people that the draft version is a coffee bomb.

Loved this....Def reminiscent of Coffee Bender IMO. @peetoteeto Please keep putting this out! Also, the minimal label/can design is great.

Did you have this on draft or in the can? I've had Coffee Bender before and it has tons more coffee flavor/aroma than the C4C cans I've been drinking the last couple nights.

@Immortale25 From the can. While I agree Coffee Bender has more to it, I think this is pretty similar in some ways. It isn't the beast Coffee Bender is but it's as a close as we'll probably get here in NC until Surly realizes they need a 2nd brewery in Asheville like everyone else.

I'm going to say that Valdez is one of the BEST coffee flavored beers I have had in a while... If you can find some give it a go. Seriously. Give it a go. :sunglasses:

Sucking one down as I type this... Probably causing me to fall down in favor of this beer, or bang my head on the desk top, take your pick...

Does anyone know which coffee they use? I can not seem to find it online. I would assume its a local roaster like Counter Culture.

We do indeed use Counter Culture for this one....Big Trouble, to be precise. Cheers!

Morganton finally got some this week. I was looking at the label (which I love) and I noticed the 1 pt. 6 oz. blacked out. I guess this was initially intended for 22oz bombers, or a screw up on the label. Either way, great beer.

Just bought a 4 pack tonight at Bestway in Greensboro. Won't try for a day or 2 but I hope it tastes as good as it sounds.
