The only reason to go to Paulaner am Nockherberg would be to go see the brewing facility before they move their operations to Langwied (a far northwestern Munich suburb) sometime next year.

Agreed, well worth the trip out there. If one has the time, this is a can't miss spot.

If 1-hr trips to can't-miss places are included, then Augustiner in Salzburg is an absolute must as well.

It's almost as easy to get to Salzburg from Munich as it is to get to Herrsching! I mean, one can easily book a day-trip to Salzburg on one of the tour bus companies.

We hit that place up Thurs eve - I gotta say it is very fun place (from what i gathered you can only get what ever beer is being tapped in the wooden kegs, which was a delicious Marzen during our visit). The "hall of food" was most excellent too.

Yea, the hall with all the vendors is one of the best aspects. Fresh bread, cheese, and meat to take with you out to the Biergarten (or into the massive Bierhalle) to eat with your Maerzen.

I always tell myself I am going to get something other than the schwienshaxe.... but never really follow thru with it

    :grinning:

I thought it was very cool that the table next to ours was full of college age locals who brought their own food in tupperware containers and that was not a problem.

the fountain is cold water to cool the hot-out-of-the dishwasher krugs - then pay the lady (6 euro/liter) and filler 'er up at the keg. On this Thur eve, a keg lasted about 15 min.

I wonder if they headed to Amsterdam afterwards and all six shared one hooker.

Ugh, this thread needs to stop. I'm about ready to order a plane ticket.

Only had their Märzen once from the bottle and it was delicious, I can only imagine how it tastes at the biergarten. Jealous.

Hofbrauhaus andn Augustiner Keller are great , but what about Hirschgarten?? I have read they have draft beers from both augustiner and hofbrau, so it would nice to be able to compare the taste of those 2 great beers at the same beerhall.

I was also wondering about tegernsee...it it worth the trip ??

The Hirschgarten itself is really nice, but apparently the owner is a nutcase and gave RonP a lot of trouble when he was taking photos there. In terms of the beers, I remember them carrying Augustiner helles, Tegernsee spezial, and Koenig Ludwig dunkel + weizen. The restaurant had good food, but their stall vendors were way overpriced. That's one of the few places I remember literally everyone bringing their own food or eating at the restaurant instead of the vendors.

Never made it to Tegernsee, but they have a hall right in the middle of Munich now. They carry the helles, spezial, and weissbier from Hopf. Personally, if I were going to go all the way down there, I'd try to book some fun in the sun type stuff as that's a long way just for (in my personal opinion) average beers.

Is it the Tegernseer Tal Brauhaus you are refering? The tegernsee hall in Munchen???

I have read RonP report about his experience taking pics , very unpleasant situation.

Yup, that's the place. Directly across from the Weissesbrauhaus, and beside Paulaner Im Tal.
It's new and very modern looking. Free (non-hidden) Wi-Fi, too.

There's Getränke Oase (Beverage Oasis) and Biervana in Munich.... I've been to neither (yet) but have hit Liebick Getränke, a short S-Bahn ride out of town, on the way to/from Aying. Good stuff there.....

    Prosit!

The review that @Bierman9 linked to is pretty accurate, but I'd add that Getränke Oase also is more expensive than average and some of the beers they carry were pretty hit-or-miss for me. However it is a good place for "craft" style options, if that's what you're looking for. Grocery stores will have a selection of traditional stuff (which, in Munich, can be pretty good), and some other non-specialty Getränkemärkte will have Ayinger and some other goodies. Google "Getränkemärkte München" and pick the place closest to you if you are up for good but standard German fare.
