I think Cafe Abseits in Bamberg tends to carry those beers.

Berlin is a little unique beer-wise. There are lots of American Craft-inspired places around town, unfortunately it looks like Stone's new place won't be open by then. Augustiner has a place near the Gendarmenmarkt that I'm not a huge fan of, but every day around 6:00 pm they tap Edelstoff from the wooden barrel. I think there's a Löwenbräu/Franziskaner place near there as well, just south of the Marktplatz if memory serves. I always enjoyed going to Weihenstaphaner's restaurant in the Hackescher Markt.

There's a specialty store called Hopfen und Malz in the Wedding district that I like to recommend as well (even though I've never been).

Berlin isn't really a beer hall kind of place, but for newer craft stuff hit up Vagabund, Heidenpeter's, Kaschk, BKK. If looking for a bottle shop, try Berlin Bier Shop. There's some pretty amazing BBQ in Markthalle Neun where Heidenpeter's is, just make sure you are there early enough in the day as they run out if you get there too late. Lots of other food things there and as street food thing there on Thursdays, as I recall.

For other food: for German hit up Felix Austria (well, it's Austrian, but bear with me here, you won't regret it). There's Genazvale, which is Georgian - if you haven't had Georgian food get yourself there and try Khachapuri, you won't regret it.

There's also Mustufa's Gemüse Kebap, which is worth the half hour plus wait in my opinion, especially if you don't mind hanging out in line chatting with friends. There's a Späti right next to it with a decent-by-Späti-standards selection of beers to help you pass the time. You can also make a nice day of standing in line for Mustufa's for lunch, drinking some beers, then walking down to Vanille und Marille for some ice cream, then walking down to Viktoriapark and "climbing" the Kreuzberg, which has a nice view of the city. After that you can head to the Golgotha beer garden (though it's perhaps a bit unlike the ones you might have experienced in and around Munich) to hang out with some more beers for a while. After that you could perhaps walk to Felix Austria for dinner, it's not that far.

was just going to say, have a look at my trip report, it might give you a couple of ideas on berlin. Id advise trying a few of the new craft type places and mixing that up with searching out some local kneipes

Sure you've seen this, but posting again just in case. One of the great beer halls (and gardens) on Earth.

When you return to the US you should visit the Von Trapp resort in Vermont and compare your two stays.

They even brew beer there, which by all reports are tasty: http://www.trappfamily.com/trapp-lager-brewery.htm

    Cheers!

Yes, the Vermont Trapp biers are pretty good, and the view from the deck of their pub is Austrian-esque! Prosit!

Grüße aus nasse Köln! Fresh from the (Holz)faß is really nice and has a creamy head.
(I don't like Kölsch and Altbier in bottle.)

The Köbes at Päffgen (@Friesenstr.) are rather kind and humourous, one even poses for me in front of the Holzfaß.

    Hi Jack,

If you should find yourself in the Stowe area, the previous brewers from Trapp Lodge now brew at Lost Nation. Their Gose is well-regarded in these parts.

It was too freekin' cold to sit outside during our visit on Thur evening, so we opted to sit inside one of the 3 large bierhalls. The brewery is conveniently located off the #7 bus line which connected us to our lodging at the Von Trapp Family Villa (yeah, the Sound of Music Von Trapps). What an excellent time!

Grab a hot from the dishwasher krug and rinse it off with ice cold water, pay 6 euro/liter, and get it filled right out of the barrel.

The Hall of Food - yum!

I wish I'd brought my lederhosen to wear a'la the locals..

I guess i need to put up a bit on our Bamburg trip we took a couple weeks ago. :open_mouth:

We've got reservations booked for a trip to Innsbruck, Austria in June with a stop over in Aying - that should be great.

Spent a weekend in Bamberg - an excellent mini beer-cation.

The Frau managed to get us book into the Residenzschloß Bamberg hotel for 30 euro/night (mit breakfast!). From there we set off and explored the city. Lots to see and much beer to enjoy.

Having a Rauchbier in Aecht Schlenkerla's Biergarten
This is hands down my favorite vs Spezial

Augustiner Brau Mulln, a magical place, indeed. Visited there first time in winter, then in summer last year, both times were awesome.
