Actually your wrong! They do claim its an American Pale Ale, and at that a West Coast Pale Ale. From Stone: "This decidedly American West Coast pale ale showcases the full essence of the vivid Mandarins Bavaria hop, a relatively new varietal born from the storied fields of Bavaria."

The original Stone Pale Ale was one of my favorite beers they offered. Pale Ale 2.0 is even better. The malt profile is outstanding, and the German hop bill makes it an a-typical beer from Stone. Love it.

This one really didn't do it for me. The malt presence in the old pale really made it stand out among other APA's, but this new rendition seems to be simply a weaker IPA. It's a bummer that Stone let go of 2 of their 3 core non-hop-forward beers in recent months.

Omg I hated that beer. No clue why.

I hear the hop flavor is very broad from tobacco to orange in the 2.0.

lol :stuck_out_tongue: I don't think you were alone in that, although the reception seemed to improve over time - something about it was just spot-on for me :sunglasses:

what about it isn't "american"? an APA is characterized (among other things) by fruity hops. clearly mandarina fits the bill. i've never seen a description of APA that mentions the origin of the ingredients, in case that's what you're musing about...

pale is the color which is within the bounds of the style.

APAs and other "American" styles are characterized by using American hops. Mandarina may have a similar flavor profile to many (but not all or even most) American hops, but that does not make it American. As for Pale or not, Pale Ales are supposed to be malted primarily with Pale, as well as being pale in color. From the image on the video, it seems a lot more golden/amber (not unlike IPAs), and I think it's malted with Munich and Crystal (can't remember though).

    This.

I haven't had the change to partake, but I can only assume that PA 2.0 is just as new and exciting and big as Ruination 2.0, as that is the current trend. I'd love to try it, am sure that I'm going to enjoy it, and I'll quite possibly even buy more than one for the fridge. My first Ruination 2.0 defiantly wasn't like my first Ruination - but it's not six years ago either. Also, with California and the tech industry's software naming convention and all, 2.0 makes perfect sense to me.
