I've been drinking a lot of citrus-forward IPAs lately, and I want to go in the other direction. Can anyone recommend some good IPAs (available in NC) that don't have the citrus front and center?

Local stuff Hoppyum from Foothills, Hop Devil, Torpedo are always around. You could always reset with Old Mecklenburg Pils too or something similar.

Hoppyum was my first reaction as well.

That's the funny thing about my ever-evolving tastes. I did not like Hoppyum or Torpedo a couple of years ago, but I bet I would like them if I tried them now.

I find everything Oskar Blues to be more malt/piney.

Even Gubna? That was like a pineapple bomb to me.

Olde Hickory DBH and Black Raven (black IPA) should fit the bill.

Yes, their hoppy beers lean to the dank side of things. Lagunitas as well.

I didn't like Hoppyum very much when I first had it on draft but I had one last night (also draft) and was surprised at how much more I appreciated it the second time around. Good hop bite and aroma, and yes not very citrusy, with a sweet-but-not-too-sweet malt backbone. Not a bad go-to by any means.

Dogfish Head 90 min, Burton Baton DIPA, and Smuttynose Finest Kind are some other suggestions. I personally love Citrus-forward IPAs and prefer them over East Coast style IPAs but when I get tired of them I usually just go for a different style of beer.
