Schlenkerla is the Ausschank (bar/restaurant), the brewery is at the Stephansberg, near the Spezial Keller. The Spezial brewery is behind the hotel-restaurant at the Ob. Königstrasse, as pictured.

Welp, was supposed to be in Bamberg this weekend, looking increasingly like that may not happen. Thanks Deutsche Bahn.

    bummer :slight_frown:

Riding the train is one thing I thought we'd be doing constantly when I first got to Germany, but it is too inconvenient and expensive, so we drive.

On price alone we still can't justify having a car, but certainly between constant delays and strikes the convenience factor I enjoyed even just a few years ago has disappeared. We were shocked on our recent trip to Dresden to have no missed transfers due to delayed trains. that hasn't happened in both directions on a trip in quite some time.

Oh well, I might need to make use of @herrburgess's parking tips and rent a car.

I hop they get this resolved soon. I was planning on using the D Bahn for most of our travel next month.

Regarding expense, if you plan enough in advance - 2 or 3 months - the Deutsche Bahn fares are pretty well discounted. We didn't have a car in Germany, so if we wanted to go somewhere we had to plan ahead. We also had the DB25 card which gives a 25% discount on every purchase. I forget what the price is per year, I think "only" €50 or €100 but we found it to be worth it. Something to look into.

Regarding convenience, I always thought the efficiency of German trains was overstated. Until I tried riding the Dutch trains...

I need some insight from those living in Germany regarding the D Bahn strike. We'll be in Germany 3 Jun - 17 Jun and were planning on riding the train four days to get from city to city. Now I'm wondering if I should just forget that and rent a car for the days I need (or for the whole trip). Are they likely to strike again? Or settle?

    Thanks.

Correct, the strike only went until yesterday. Not to mention it was still possible to travel via train even during the strike last week, just reduced availability. I understand that was the 8th strike in 10 months so there may yet be more before the meeting between the two train unions this summer. Not much you can do about it, but I still got around with minor planning.

Yeah it was over, and actually the reduced number of trains meant that once we were able to get rebooked it actually was the smoothest trip I've had in a while! No delays. Just need to make sure you have reservations in those cases, because there were a lot of people standing the entire train trip, since the trains were overcrowded with other people who had cancelled trains.

Pity I wasn't able to make it down and share some beers with you, just ended up being bad timing here.
Hope you enjoyed it and I look forward to hearing about it!

    Cheers

Don't ignore some of the other good beers around -- O'Hara's is plentiful and The Porterhouse should not be bypassed.
