We have been busy brewing beers for the society but haven't figured out what the first release will be. We hope to have something out in March at the latest. We will probably have all the swag sometime before that.

Curious if anyone else had a similar experience with Picasso, the first Barrel Society release.

I couldn't make it on Thursday (3/19) for the Picasso release and decided to skip the crowds from EBF on Friday/Saturday, which was perhaps a big error on my part. When I went in mid-day Sunday looking forward to trying Picasso on tap, I was informed that it had kicked and they had Pluto (one of the 2014 BS beers) back on. I was a little bummed that the 2015 beer would kick so quickly, but there seems to be plenty of supply of the 2014 beers to keep them on tap still...?

The website, FWIW, still lists Picasso as being on tap and hasn't been changed to reflect that they've been out of it since 3/21 or 3/22.

As I'm pretty close to the brewery, the Members Only draft line was a big deal for me. And as I was drinking quite a few of the 2014 Members Only beers for the first two and a half months of 2015, I got the idea they'd stick around for a little while -- at least four days!

Did anyone else have a similar experience or can any 2014 members comment on how long these beers usually keep on tap? Most likely I'll just have to show up on release day to try the new beer, which is honestly something I probably should have done anyway.

Regardless of this small issue, still loving the job Night Shift is doing. Morph is one of my favorite canned IPAs, I'm looking forward to Santilli becoming a regular thing, and the 2015 Barrel Society t-shirt and glassware look awesome! Well done on those fronts, gents, and cheers on the recent successes.

Hey @BRYeleJR - We totally underestimated the amount of draft beers we would go thru for Picasso and combined with members from out of town in for the EBF we kicked the beer way faster than expected. We typically try to have the current release on tap for a few weeks at a time so everyone gets a chance to taste it without having to open their bottles. This year we have 1,200 members which is double last years membership and we are adjusting to the demand for that Members only line. We will do better for the next release.

As for the website not being correct. That is unacceptable on our part. We are fixing that now. Sorry about the misinformation.

Glad you are enjoying our beers! Cheers!

I'm just curious if Picasso was the wild red ale from their list of society releases. It's the only beer listed that loosely fits the description.

Picasso is sort of the wild red ale from the list. I am assuming you are referring to the list on the Barrel Society FAQ page, correct? That list is a rough plan of what we will make and depending what the barrel gods provide us we work on creating something special.

For something like Picasso it is a blend of 12 oak barrels holding various beers and blended to have our desired flavor profile. So some lighter beers that had more acidity were added and then a darker beer was also mixed into give dark fruit character and round it all out.

Hope that answers your question. Cheers!

Perfect! I was referring to the Barrel Society FAQ page and that definitely answered my question. Thanks!

Email will be going out in a bit (today) about the next release. Sorry its been so long since the last release but barrel aged beers are a bit less predictable than our regular beers. We wait till the beer tells us its ready. Patience/time is a key ingredient. Cheers.

Release #2: Hogarth, a strong ale blend aged in apple brandy and bourbon barrels - big, malty, caramel backbone; assertive rye spice; sophisticated, intricate symphony of bourbon, toffee, and dark fruit flavors.

    Sounds tasty!

Sounds awesome @masterob8. Really excited for this one.

Do we expect Hogarth to kick as quickly on tap as Picasso did? That one was put on Thursday as well -- also during a Beer Advocate festival weekend (EBF) and kicked by Sunday. Curious if you think Hogarth will be following a similar pattern since its ACBF weekend and I need to get in there super quick. Can sometimes be difficult between ACBF pre- and post-events and the festival itself.

Need to make sure I don't miss out again! Thanks.
