I have a friend from England who is going on a US/Canada tour this summer and is going out of his way to go to South Dakota...for bottlecaps! It is the only state that he doesn't have a beer cap from. Is there any hope??? Thanks!

Hi. I am the friend from the UK and SirBottlecap has encouraged me to join this forum. I am aware of a number of breweries in SD...Bitter Esters Brewhouse; Black Hills Brewing Co (closed); Crow Peak Brewing Co; Dakota Shivers Brewing; Dempsey's Brewery/Pub; Granite City Food & Brewery; Hay Camp Brewing Co; Heist Brewing Co; Dakota Brewing Co / Huron Brewing Co (closed); Miner Brewing Co; Monks House of Ale Repute/Gandy Dancer Brew Works; Saddle & Sickle Brewing Co; Sioux Falls Brewing Co (1995 - 2003); Sick n Twisted Brewing Co; Firehouse Brewing Co; Wooden Legs Brewing Co; however, I am not aware that any of them produce branded caps on bottled beer. Does anyone know differently? Many thanks AndyCapper

I believe that Crow Peak is the only brewery on that list that is currently packaging, but they only use cans. Gandy Dancer and Wooden Legs are tap only. Heist has been closed for a year or two now, they never packaged. Don't recognize any of the others on that list- either very old or very new.

Thanks for your response. I know it is going to be tough finding a cap sample from SD, but that is what collecting is all about. If it was easy there would be no fun in it. Thanks.

I was just curious, how do you store your caps?
I was thinking about starting a collection just not sure how to store it.

I turn mine into refrigerator magnets, but instead of putting them on a fridge, I stick mine to the overhead ductwork in my man cave.

[IMG] I couldn't help notice the lack of a SD cap on this picture I lifted from another thread.
I use velcro on screws on painted plywood (see small slice on my avatar). AndyCapper, would you mind posting a picture of a page from your collection? Are those meant for bottlecaps?

My collection of caps is mainly stored in purpose made ring-binders using special sleeves designed specifically for bottlecaps. The binders and sleeves are purchased online and imported from Germany. Each binder can hold up to 9 sleeves and each sleeve holds up to 42 caps so a maximum of 378 caps per binder. For countries with less than 16 caps in my collection, the caps are stored in CD cases. My selection of trade stock caps are stored on flat (red) trays for ease of photographing ready for new trading possibilities and I have multi compartment boxes for extra trade caps.

Hi Mothergoose03, I don't suppose you have any older UK caps in your collection, that you might be willing to trade? I have 1800 different USA beer caps in my collection and probably 100 USA 'trade' caps. I am always on the lookout for new UK caps some of which were issued on export beers to the USA but maybe not used in the UK, e.g. Felinfoel (FL); Wychwood - Fiddler's Elbow.

Hi, AndyCapper. I wouldn't have anything very old in my collection because I only started collecting caps about 5-6 years ago. (Many of mine that you see in the pic above were collected from a bar -- I can't drink that many beers.) Also, I don't buy many imports either, although I do have some imported beer caps. There would only be one of each of those because when I buy an imported beer it's always as a single bottle. Sorry that I can't help you in your quest.

Thanks for the prompt and honest response. It was worth asking just in case you did have a couple of UK caps embedded within your collection. Cheers, Andrew.

Hello AndyCapper and all other beer cap collectors here. I have been collecting beer caps for over 35 years, with collection of 32,000 different caps, and have some old UK/Ireland caps in my collection. There have been so many new beer caps produced in the last few years, I have almost stopped collecting world caps, to focus on my USA collection. I have even considered trading and selling my world caps. I would be willing to trade for USA beer caps. Let me know if you are interested. I have about 250 "wanted" USA caps.

Hi Fossilfuse, thanks for the note. I would be happy to take a look at any UK/Ireland caps you might have to trade / sell. I'm not sure that I would have many USA caps that you don't have but I'm happy to take a look at your 'Wanted' list. If I don't have any that you want but you have caps of interest to me then we could negotiate a price. If you would like to email me directly my address is kearley7 at gmail dot com and we can take the conversation off line. Thanks once again.
