I was told mid-May by Fort George on Twitter. Because I was missing last year's, publicly.

I would imagine last years "collaboration" will never get made again as it would require Block 15/Boneyard to collaborate with them again...

Yeah, I was told they'd begin packaging it in a couple weeks. Was told Overdub would be canned in about two weeks.

Overdub cans were shown on Instagram today. Very cool design.

I missed this year's 3-Way specs if they were previously mentioned, but hearing it's at 5.7% this year vs. 7.2% last year makes me extremely happy. I didn't find last year's to have an oversized malt presence, but I think there is a definite advantage in late-addition focused hoppy beers to pulling back the malt bill (and thus the ABV). This is assuming this year's hop profile is as tasty as last year's, but I've got confidence in the 3 Brewers involved.

Would a low bitterness beer with lots of late-addition hopping still be considered "west coast"? Seems the "Vermont IPA" branding has a lot of overlap with what I'm describing, despite the fact NW breweries have been using this technique just as long or longer. Maybe just another example of more aggressive promotion by every other US region making our beers overlooked in comparison (I have no problem with this, for the record).

Yeah, I mentioned the abv difference above. I like many of the so called Vermont style hoppy beers but often find myself wishing for more bitterness. I don't recall wishing for more bitterness with either of the Betas I tried, which would suggest to me that it still qualifies as west coast.

    BTW, Overdub is on shelves!

    EDIT TO ADD:
Hop profile is similar to last year but without mosaic. I detailed why in a post above.

I am not a fan of session IPAs. I'm probably closer to a hater of the style. But Overdub is phenomenal. Best session IPA I've had. Maybe I didn't give Suicide Squeeze enough of a chance, but in my memory it pales in comparison to Overdub. It had that hop water finish and lack of crispness that undermines so many session IPAs in my opinion. Citrus, a touch of bitter, and not much else. Overdub manages to pack in a lot of tropical flavors (pineapple?), some resinous dankness, decent body to carry the flavors, a more enduring finish. I'd usually say "yeah, it's ok ... but why didn't I drink a REAL IPA or an APA" after hitting a session IPA. Not with Overdub. Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I think this rivals last year's 3-Way in quality. I brought a 4 pack back to the midwest with me to pressure test that statement.

Honestly I agree with most of this. I was psyched when session IPA's first started hitting years ago (I love lower abv styles) but many do lack the malt body I want, and that's from someone who likes hops to dominate. Most of the time I'd rather go about 1-2% higher and go with a hoppy pale than a lower SIPA.

I dug Suicide Squeeze last year but I absolutely think Overdub is better. IIRC correctly I was told the recipe is very similar (in fact they actually wanted to do Suicide Squeeze again but there were ahhhh ... complications). Anyway, I have a bad feeling Overdub may become difficult to find on shelves the way 3-Way was last year.

So, the release party was in Seattle on Thursday and Portland last night (Friday). Anyone try it yet, or seen cans in stores?

had it at Roscoes. i thought it was very good, but I will want to try it again from the cans.

my initial thought is that last year's was better, but this was still a very nice beer

Bier Stein did a release event on Saturday. They had it on tap, along with some other beers from Georgetown, pFriem and Ft. George.

I thought it was decent, but after last year's version, I was a bit disappointed. It's seems to be lighter and more dry than last year's version, and doesn't seem to be as juicy or to have anything like the tropical fruit I picked up in last year's beer. Granted, last year's version is a tough act to follow, but I was really hoping for something a bit more interesting than this.

Considering Pfriem and Georgetown are in the mix, I'm not surprised it goes more to the dry side than the fruity / juicy. Still can't wait to try it.

Their distributor is picking up cans/kegs at the brewery as we speak, so if you don't feel like making a 3 hour detour you can probably find some while you're in town tomorrow.

Had it at the taproom a couple of times this weekend. Pretty good beer. I think they are crazy for not making last years 3 way year round.
