Thoroughly impressed by how this one has aged. Lots of chocolate, both milk and dark, as well as a nicely rounded and roasted malt build that still shows depth after almost 5 years.

Anyone have any experience on how it does past 5 years? I was actually not expecting it to hold up/ develop so well.

    Cheers!

Interesting. I love this beer, always get a bottle, and always drink it. I just threw a framinghammer (an excellent baltic porter from Jacks Abby in MA) in the cellar -- because they're no longer on any shelves -- and was wondering how baltic porters hold up over time.

I'm glad to hear that there's at least one baltic porter that ages well. There's definitely not a ton of aging forums on these, so I've always wondered. I have Surly Smoke in the cellar hoping that something drinkable comes out....

I've done it at 4 years and thought it was great. What's even better is that it's available in 4-packs now so easy enough to throw some in the cellar and experiment.

I'm gonna find out sometime soon.Been holding onto my last 2009.Getting an itch to crack her open though!

Big Beer Series are bottle conditioned, so not surprised to hear its doing well.

    Cheers

Hoping we get some 4-packs in OH soon. Haven't even seen the bomber on shelves for maybe over a year. There just isn't enough love for Baltic Porters around here.

I've only had BA Framminghammer but really would like to try the base beer on it's own. I know they just started distributing to Eastern PA. I have access to Western PA so hopefully that follows sooner than later.

Baltics do beautifully with time. Duck Rabbit's is a fave (as long as it's not an off year).

I love Duck Rabbit's Baltic. I haven't had luck aging it longer than a year, though. It was crazy oxidized after only just over a year. Seems like they have some quality control issues.

They do, and they're always a gamble, but when they do good they nail it.
