They just installed their hopback, so at least now they can make a legit attempt at making Alpine stuff.

I was at the pub earlier this week. Ordered a Nelson. Tasted over carbonated and bitter. Asked them and they confirmed it was the green flash Nelson. Sucks that they are serving green flash Nelson at alpine. Wouldn't be surprised if the growler is from green flash as well, haven't tasted mine yet.

that makes me so sad =(

i think the keene needs a few days to settle. My growler is tasting much better today than it was yesterday

So bottles are still from Alpine, tap/growlers are from gf?

Keene was definitely not brewed by GF.

I think the other tap/ growler beers are spotty in terms of GF origin.

    It's a pretty easy formula.

The week in which they do a bottle release of a beer, you likely will see the Alpine stuff on draft too. The later you get away from that bottle release, the more likely it is that the kegs came from Green Flash.

Green Flash is not doing any specialty beers, yet. They also aren't doing any PureHop as far as I know, but then again I've not seen any PureHop outside of the tasting room in a long time so that would make sense.

My brother in law and I did a blind taste test last night with a bottle of Nelson bought from the pub a few weeks ago and a bottle bought from a store up north a couple weeks ago. The difference was night and day. The bottle from Alpine was the great Nelson I am used too, but the bottle from the liquor store was bitter and thin. Two people that tasted the beers, but didn't know what we were doing, said they couldn't be the same beer.

Lesson learned, don't buy 10 dollar bottles of Nelson from random liquor stores and stick to bottles directly form Alpine. The sad thing is, people who have always wanted to try Nelson and find these bottles will not even know what it should be and be disappointed.

don't see the difference other than the other bottle maybe being old? Only Alpine brews Nelson in bottles, Green Flash does zero bottling.

It depends. Bottles are always from Alpine (for now), tap/growlers are dependent on quantity. I was told by a friend that this week's nelson in the brewery was a fresh batch of nelson (as told to him by the brewery on the same day), but the brewery themselves told me it wasn't a fresh batch, leading to me thinking it's from GF since the pub tap was GF. I'd crack my growler right now to try it but I'm still recovering from a nasty bout of food poisoning.

I've heard it both way, alpine does all bottles and GF does everything for distro. Not going to argue which is true, maybe both were made by alpine, but the beers were very different and I don't think age was a factor.

GF does zero bottling right now. They don't have it set up yet. So both your bottles were from Alpine.

But Alpine has spotty QC, so I've definitely had really off Nelson bottles.

Yup. All Alpine bottles are brewed in Alpine, and even when GF does start bottling, they'll have a different label than the one used by Alpine. It was most likely just an older bottle that you got from the liquor store.

Yes…bottle from store is probably older and maybe not in a proper cooler. On the shelf or in the back room sitting on the floor at room temperature. I'm going to have to make a Alpine run sooner than later. I dread the day GF starts bottling Alpine beers. Especially the ipa's.

Nelson at the alpine brewery is definitely green flash for the growler fills this past week. Sigh. Just popped it and popped a bottle next to it, texture night and day again

Can somebody here tell me if Alpine started using 32oz growlers with a new label style and new screw on cap? A buddy sent me 2 pictures late last night of an Alpine growler that looks like a 32oz. The screw on cap has a sticker on it that says Nelson 7.0%. Has no other information on it.

Alpine growlers are 64oz when bought at Alpine with screw caps. You can buy an Alpine logo'd 32oz at GF and they will fill it down at Alpine. Not sure on price but I would guess it ends up being half of the posted fill price, but that is just speculation.

But really, why would you only want 32oz of Keene Idea? 2 pints doesn't seem like enough.

Edit: But really what it sounds like is that your buddy filled it at GF with GF Nelson.

Those are the GF Alpine 32oz growlers...you can fill them back up at Alpine apparently now. AFAIK they are only sold at GF.

So at GF they are selling 64oz and 32oz Alpine labeled growlers & filling them with Alpine beers brewed at GF? You can take those growlers to Alpine to get them refilled with Alpine beers still brewed from GF? So some of the draft Alpine beers at Alpine brewpub is probably from GF? So far the bottles are still from Alpine?

I've got 6 or 7 Alpine 64oz growlers that are probably going to be useless to me this year. Or is now. Even if I wanted to (and I won't) I can't take my empty Alpine bought growlers to GF to get refilled with GF/ABC beers? Or does GF honor the Alpine bought growlers?
