That's a great point I hadn't ever thought about. Calling this an IPA is a travesty to IPAs at least to me.

Well, that took about as long as I figured it might take to close out. BM me your shipping details and I'll get a box of goodies out to you!

Yeah it isn't cheap at all, but for what it is, and for it to include shipping, that's a pretty decent price. I'm considering it just to have some nice trade/BIF/LIF ammo

Mannekin Pis, Orval, Summation also fit your criteria

Was Summation released? Are they even a real brewery?

Edit: or am I thinking of a different Summation?

3 Sons I assume you're talking about? It was sort of released. 36 bottles of essentially homebrew

3 Sons is not open yet. They will be pouring at a brewpub starting this summer and they will hopefully be open in the fall.

This is what I was talking about:
I just found it interesting that despite how specific his question was, two things fit the criteria. Ditto for Orval/Westy, I can't find on the Orval label the Trappist logo, despite that it does say that it's Trappist beer a few times. [edit: that is, on the front of the label, upon closer inspection it is on the back of it]

Was it ever decided on limits and if we are sticking to them etc

I could get into a pretty lengthy conversation (or civilized debate) about this, but I won't here (I ramble enough [too much, depending on who you talk to] as it is). If either of you (or anyone else) is interested in further discourse on the topic, BM me

Nick, I am curious which Tired Hands beer is that?

I don't think Summation fits...He said the beer's name contains a Greek letter and a geometry concept. Doesn't say the beer's label. Since the name of the beer is Summation I would would rule that incorrect. If the name of the beer was simply the letter Sigma then I would rule it correct.

    My two unsolicited cents.

I don't have a bottle of Orval in front of me, but I'm fairly certain that the front of the Orval label doesn't have the Trappist logo, but the wrap around part that goes around to the back does indeed have the Trappist logo on it.

Here's a pic of the label:
    http://beerlabelarchive.blogspot.com/2011/01/orval.html

The Trappist logo is the yellow/gold hexagon on the left side the label (the part that wraps around to the back). As much as they worry about the logo, ANY product (not just beer) that has a label that can be labeled as Trappist is going to be. I'm sure they'd fit it on the bottlecap of Westvleteren if they could

And as @UcDru points out, I specifically said the name of the beer contains a greek letter and a geometry concept. Summation contains neither, though I could conceive of a world where you could argue that summation is a geometric concept since there is such a thing as a geometric series and one can sum it (though to me that still means its an arithmetic concept, not a geometric concept). Though it still doesn't contain a greek letter in the name

I take the beer's name to be the letter sigma, in the context of it being the summation symbol, when written out it's referred to as "Summation", but on the label most prominently is the Greek letter. I of course have not spoken with the brewer about this, but under that theory my point holds. #pedantry

I already acknowledged that it was on the back of the label, I just didn't see it on the front. It wasn't about being right, as I said above I just thought it was interesting that despite very specific criteria for both of those questions, it wasn't too much of a leap to have two possible answers. Obviously I was wrong.

Very interesting, I really liked that one; though I can see where the richer mouthfeel from the wheat could throw you off if it's not what you're expecting. I also love Nelson Sauvin hops, and since when I had it perhaps they've fallen off a little, which wouldn't help.

I don't know for certain if the brewer intended the name to be Sigma or Summation however looking at the label I can say with relative certainty Summation is the name of the beer and it is a BBA Imperial Coffee Stout....the Sigma sign is the label art and a play on Summation...Sort of how Founders Breakfast Stout is the name of a beer not "child eating cereal out of a Founders bowl".....

In which case the name is a greek letter and not a geometry concept, and thus still doesn't meet the definition
