I can understand how the thread can come across as nonsense at best and wanton bashing at worst, but I see it as a thread that encourages conversation, as in folks either defending their stance based on what they taste or folks defending a beer disliked by others by describing how they feel about the beer. Also encourages intellectual honesty in reviews, as in rate the beer, not the hype.

If all else fails, it's the quintessential "I'm ok, you're ok" thread......

 

Sculpin

 

MBC Dinner...had it, IMO still not as good as "Another One".

 

Grapefruit Sculpin and Habanero Sculpin were drain poors for me... I love regular Sculpin, just thought those variants were disgusting.
I agree with others on the Enjoy By, last one I had smelled and tasted like onions.

 

Hunahpu's. The cinnamon overpowered the beer, it's all I could taste. I like cinnamon but perhaps just not in my beer.

 

I can definitely understand people being subjective with beers like this one. I just happen to love the "in-your-face" experience!

 

New Glarus Raspberry Tart and Belgium Red. Not my cup of tea, but everyone seems to crazy over them.

 

I will try to select a few beers that i didnt particularly enjoy that other people love, from styles that I
really like....

1.) Boulevard Tank 7 -- This beer is downright offensive to me for some reason.. I just do not like it at all. I can dig saisons and farmhouse ales, so its not a style issue...

2.) Victory Dirtwolf, HopRanch- I have had both of these beers very fresh, and while decent, I for the life of me couldnt figure out the love for them. I am a hop head, so just as a above style is not the issue. ( I can also get on the 2HA unimpressed bandwagon.. Although i have purchased it numerous times. Solid, but not a benchmark at all for me)

3.) Southern Tier Pumking- This just tastes so medicinal too me. I mean, i can sit there and drink it because its more of a Pavolovs conditioning. The smell is great, and it reminds me of fall, hunting, and football season so... there is that.

4.)Cigar City Hunahpu - I will preface this by saying I like the beer.. I wouldnt turn down the beer. It just has a big time soy sauce flavor that isnt my favorite. I actually prefer Zhukov. I am sure my mind would change regarding the Apple Brandy and rum variant...

5.) Sierra Nevada Stout- Had it several times and I just dont like it. I am a stout fanatic and this one just doesnt do it for me.

 

I think Two Hearted has gone the way of Stairway to Heaven. Everyone loves to rip on that song, but were would we be without it? Honestly? No where nice. It's the overplayed oldie that everyone scoldies.

I miss my Two Hearted.

There are whole bunch of popular beers that I think are good/OK, but don't live up to their hype (Hopslam, Jai Alai, PtE). But as for beers I really dislike that others seem to like...

Yeah with beers like Two Hearted, Pliny, Hopslam etc - not that I'm going to tell someone they can't name those beers in this thread, but it's a little unfair. If the scene has "moved on" in a sense, it shouldn't detract from the value they added.

 

I thought KBS was ok, but I much prefer Tweak or Sunday Morning Stout.

 

Felt validated reading this thread and seeing the word sculpin so many times!
In fact, I feel that way about every Ballast Point beer I have had... Victory at Sea was like Guiness with a bottle of vanilla extract and a pound of sugar poured in.
Yet I am seeing Ballast Point hype and craze everywhere I look online... like five pictures of grapefruit and habanero sculpin and victory at sea are posted to social networks every minute!
