Correct me if I'm wrong, but places aren't legally able to allow outside/BYOB bottles. They were loosey-goosey about allowing it but not only are they under no obligation to allow it, but really shouldn't allow it. It was a "nice to have" thing that they allowed it when most places don't, but I can't be mad if they decide to lock it down.

You're right Matt. It is/was illegal, but the bros allowed it nonetheless. I think the biggest concern they have is that when there are multiple tables conducting tastings at something like the solstice parties that the large windows make what is going on inside easily visible outside. My original post and beef was the absolutely lame ass excuse given for why this will apparently not be allowed anymore. The idea that they are not making a shitload of money at these release type events is ridiculous. I'm sure that it will be "ignored" if done on a small scale, maybe back in the corner where it is more private. Of course, sharing your beers with the bros and staff can't hurt either.

I agree. If they're going to stop doing it at least be real about it.

We could hold a farewell tasting in Novi with some pinball if you want. It would have to be a middle of the week thing though. ;-)

also having talked to brad/mike/holly from kuhnhenn and this is just what i heard from them a few crews from chicago took up a ton of table space for a large part of the day and yes they bought bottles but i guess they also brought mass amounts of there own bottles and literaly did not order any drafts did not share and left crappy tip. also i was up there 2 nights last week and shared a few bottles each night with the bar crew (the brothers) were not there but asked if its still cool to bring bottles and was told to just be discrete and share order some things from them and tip well.

I dont blame them especially on a St. Patrick's day that falls on a Saturday. Tables will be a precious commodity. If people come in a bring their own beer, they are taking the place of people that would be buying kuhnhenn's beer that they have on tap. It is a business decision.

i figuerd brad was right on when he said thats what pissed them off that would piss me off also so i guess just stick to slower times and no special days. i usualy go on sundays or after 11pm on weekend nights when crowd dies down. my wife and i had a bill of 25 bucks for the beer we drank there shared 3 bombers and left 20 buck tip.

Many of you are correct that the one large table shared their own beers, didn't order hardly any drafts, took up 1/4 of yhe tasting room for a majority of the day, and tipped VERY badly. That is just one reason for no bottles. The other is that it is not legal...at all. It is something that should never have been allowed, but now with the expansion going forward, there is more scrutiny being placed on the brewery and bringing in outside bottles can't happen anymore. Still plenty of great Kuhnhenn beer to drink though

yes it is "illegal" kinda like shipping beer in the mail! so if the owners of a brewpub want to invite someone into the back room to taste beers from another brewpub this is illegal?

Anyone who wants to join us in Novi on Thursday the 22nd for a tasting and a warehouse full of pinball machines, please private message me so that I can make the arrangements and have a head count. Gotta keep it to 20 people or less.

It is legal only if the area is not a public space and those tasting are employees or members of the trade, otherwise it can be considered a Blind Pig. A consumer cannot bring outside beer into a licensed establishment, or taste said beers for free or otherwise.

Just a heads up, I am still working out the 3/22 tasting, so please don't get too excited yet. I will message those of you who messaged me with details as soon as possible.
