This is basically what happens now. The beer everywhere is so good that it is not worth the effort/money to trade or search out beers that are not common to your local area just because they "may" be marginally better than the local ones to you.

That said, though, some styles I am not as big a fan of as everyone else seems to be are bourbon barrel aged beers, and barleywines..

    Revolution Anti-Hero IPA.

I'm in Chicago so I feel if I say that out loud in a bar, I may be stoned to death.

As you should be.....JK. To each their own. Although it is nice to have a decent IPA in every establishment with a liquor liscense.

Yea man, no problem and i understand your confusion. ( Just like my confusion with people naming beers like Sculpin and Jai Alai as gross, haha)

From what i remember of Tank 7 ( and i have had it i think twice) whenever i would take a sip, i would get an overwhelming sensation and aroma in my nose and sinuses of pungent fresh cut hay and mildew. I am not sure, its hard to put my finger on it at this moment. Whatever it was, it gave me a headache.

I may try it again in the future and take notes...

Enjoy By. Onions and Garlic. Garlic and Onions. Those are the only two flavors I get from this beer. I want to like it, and I keep trying different releases, but all I get is garlic and onions. Nasty.

DFH 120. As others have said - a boozy mess. I've only had it fresh, so I'm aging one now in the hopes that it will turn into something more drinkable in a year or two.

BCBS. Holy molasses bomb. I like a nice sticky roasty stout and love when barrel aging adds vanilla and oak-ey/woody undertones. None of that here, just molasses and straight bourbon. Nearly as thick as molasses too. I like a nice thick mouthfeel, but this is just over the top. I should have eaten this beer with a spoon to complete the experience. Fairly certain I can replicate this beer by mixing a cup of molasses with a shot of Jack.

Heady. Almost left this one off the list. I fear that high expectations factor in to my opinion. I also hold on to the possibility that I simply had an old can (although the person that gave it to me insisted it was fresh). There was just nothing spectacular or even note-worthy here. Expected more hop on the nose and stronger hop presence in the taste. But, meh. Glad to have tried it but will put precisely 0 effort in to getting it again.

Hopslam. The Michigan homer in me wants to like this beer, but WTF? Obviously hoppy, but none of the goodness that comes from a nice hoppy beer. Minimal hops on the nose, and nothing piney, grassey, tropical, or fruity in the taste. The hops are there, but all they do is bitter (and I love bitter beer). Mix in the boozy component of this beer and I just don't get it. Line up a dozen DIPAs in front of me and this is the last one I will grab every. single. time.

Two Hearted. Love the taste, but for some reason it ALWAYS gives me a headache.

West coast style IPAs. I grew up drinking Sierra Nevada but have found that the over the top bitterness bores me now. All of the over the top IPA styles in fact are too one dimensional for more than a full pulls from a glass for me. I have gravitated to hoppy but balanced if I have to, but prefer the maltier style and love well made sours.

Completely agree! Thin mouth feel and I might as well have picked up a handle of Jack Daniels instead of drinking this. Major let down for me!

This is a great question! Individual palates can be so particular... There are certain flavors that develop from how yeast strains are manipulated and, often, particular flavors imparted by hops (because American craft beer has become so hop-centric), that a beer can range from tasting ambrosial to just plain gross. I tend to struggle with beers that feature Mosaic hops. To me, they often taste oniony or earthy in a way that is not appetizing. One beer in particular is Lawson's Finest Liquids, Sip of Sunshine. This is a highly regarded beer that I've had several times and there are certain aspects of the beer that I truly enjoy, but that certain oniony flavor is in there and it's just not appealing to me. On the other hand, I love Two Hearted... multi-layered citrus yumminess. I will admit that Bell's can be inconsistent, but if I find Two Hearted fresh in cans I'll generally be very happy with it.

Pseudo Sue. I've had it multiple times and I just don't understand what's so great about it. It's not bad by any means, but it's just decent in my book. 4/5 all day.

-DF 120. What a boozy mess!
-Nugget Nectar. Dont get the hype.
-GI Matilda. One of the only beers I was forced to dump out. Just not very good at all. Would have rather had a Bud Light.

I think you are going to be even more disappointed with the Orval, then- it will get stinkier and weirder . That's kind of its appeal to the ones who love it.

I guess it's an issue of geography. None of those make it to Ohio, and ZD is the best one I've found here.
