Ideally, you should be drinking this beer in a vacuum-sealed, pitch black room

I know you two are making fun of me but it's a real thing and if you think it doesn't have an effect, it absolutely does.

Just giving you a hard time. I'm well aware of the light issue, but it was fucking beautiful outside. What's a girl to do?

I enjoyed this latest batch. Is it as good as the last? No I don't think so but its still a really good double IPA. Its closer to the last batch of KS than Sosus was to its previous batch which is encouraging.

I hear ya! I face that dilemma quite often. Hard to not drink a good beer outside.

10/10 had The King and Permanent Funeeal side by side and The King was better.

Yep - I agree with this. Had some tonight. Really a good beer - in my opinion it is the best beer they have brewed since Mike left. I don't think it was quite the same as last fall either..... but that is not a real criticism, it was still very good - but different. I thought the last batch of King had more "intangibles" - when I drank it, it was like drinking fruit juice. This one did not quite rival that - but really good, none-the-less. I was also less than impressed with the last Sosus as well.

Could definitely chalk up a flavor change to hop batch. Sosus can't comment on as I didn't have any of last batch. Personally I fell they are closer then farther away from getting things figured out.

Drinking one now and it's identical to the last batch in bottles. Nose, appearance, and flavor are spot on. 1st batch that was growler only is still the best though. Not sure why, maybe it had sediment or something giving it a better mouthfeel and more like "orange juice".

The 1st and 2nd batch are still the best IMHO for some reason though. There was a small batch that was draft only in Feb of last year, then the growler batch in April 2014. Both those were identical....

All of them remind me of HF Double Citra.

Just finished a bottle and in my opinion it's drankin absolutely delicious. Agree with @MNPikey nose, appearance flavor are perfect. Just a really great beer. Love them citra hops.

edit: when you can enjoy smelling the empty glass, you know that shit was good.

I'm also interested in the effect of hop batches. Personally, I grow a lot of produce so I'm well aware of many issues with processing, storage, transport, and varying produce quality. Should people feel comfortable rating Citra beers brewed 6 months apart as if the inputs are nearly identical? 3 months? Maybe I should be, but my instincts don't allow for that yet.

Going to go ahead and call BS on anyone saying it's similar to any previous batch. Yes, it's good, but all grapefruit and more bitter instead of straight OJ flavor. I'd say this beer went from 10/10 to 8.5/10. Still delicious, very different. Harder to justify the effort needed for this beer now though I'll still probably drop everything to go grab a couple bottles in Hudson next time as well.
