I hate to carry on this conversation, but this is pretty much my opinion as well. I, at one time, was a Jackie O's "hater"... not really a hater, just didn't care much for all the buzz around them and their surrounding hipster-ness. I was finally able to start trying more of their stuff as kegs and some larger format bottles started to make their way to C-bus several years ago... Bottom line, I found out they do brew great beers!

Is the BA stuff overpriced? Hell yea! It costs too much (those that disagree are stuck in another world... $50 per four pack of any beer is flat out thievery). But every time I see a new release, I pull the trigger. But am I going to pull the trigger a second time? Highly doubtful... I just don't have as big of a beer budget as others on here I guess. And I actually do see their stuff sitting on shelves quite a bit (frequently see BA Brick Kiln and there was a time in the last half year where Woodburner was shelf turding around at $13 a pop, as good as it is). To this point, BBA Dark App is probably the only one I could justify buying again (yes I've had Black Maple, it was awesome)... I actually had a chance to buy BBA Dark App last Friday, and passed on it. I did pick up the BBA Oil, which I had never seen. :grinning:

Also, I do like the aesthetics of the JO bottles, but in the end, who gives a shit? I'm paying for what is INSIDE the bottle... If a change in packaging would reduce the price a little, I'm all for that.

Founders is ok, but there is literally nothing they make that I buy. Too many good local options and other national beers I like more.

I'd keep your eyes peeled it may still turn up...Cappys is one of the best shops in the area Ben takes great care of his customers regulars and 1st timers...I know he only got 1 case of that and it was on a lot of people's radar. Hope you track one down cheers.

If you think spending $12 on beer that has been barrel aged for a year is overspending, you are in the wrong hobby. Jackie O's is pretty much the TG of Ohio. In 2 years, you are going to be kicking yourself in the ass when you have to wait in line for 2 hours to get one bottle of their BA stuff and don't see it again for the rest of the year. FWIW, their BA OoA is way better than KBS, SMS, BA BOS, or BBPt5 IMHO.

Despite my rabid fanboyism, I too used to be a JO hater. Then again, I used to be a LBJ hater. As a Clevelander, I've learned to let go of my self-destructive skepticism.

I went to the Jackie O's bottle release with a great deal of respect for them. I left being fully convinced that they're the best brewery in Ohio.

They really do have their barrel aging down. BA Dark Apparition is my favorite beer to this point. Dark Apparition is great too. I don't really think anyone is happy about the price point, but at least their beers are outstanding. I'd probably be more bummed out if I didn't have some flexibility in my beer budget. At this point, price isn't really a concern to me unless it's absolutely ridiculous. I can't wait to try Black Maple.

Must have struck a nerve...my point was just that no one would ever trade a sixer of Saturn for a BA brick kiln.

Can't say I've tried either. I have a '13-'15 vert I'm about to do of BA Brick though. I'm drinking a '14 paw paw wheat rn that has cold aged amazingly.

If Jackie O's ever bottled nutted BA Brick Kiln, I would go there 3-4 times to buy my allotment. I don't care how much it costs, that beer is unreal.

Ohio resident Jackie O haters = mid-season Dellavedova haters. Once he scores 19 in a close out playoff game, you liked him since he was signed. Smh.

This is where some peoples subjective opinions would differ.

I would much MUCH rather pay $6 for a bottle of KBS than $12 for a BA DA/Oil
It's subjective though. Honestly, I find Jackie O's BA Stout's to be massive malt mess's. My personal taste. I feel like a KBS just drops down the pallet at 11.2% so smooth and and pleasant. Jackie O's seem so offset with malt and booze. Which in fairness, if you like that taste... Then you will prefer that. That's subjectie. To me if I can nab a KBS at Half the price or a 22oz '97' Rated 12% imperial BA coffee stout for $8.99!? Yeah... Game over!

Fatheads has a bunch of bourbon barrels (16-20 of them) in the brewery. Never got around to asking what was in them, though. They say BBASPT1 on them... Dated 5-14-15.

Unless you run or work in a commercial brewery, I do not see how you are in a position to judge the finances and price points of a craft brewery. They must be doing what they feel is right. The great thing if that as a consumer you have so many options. "$50 per four pack of any beer is flat out thievery" sounds a little harsh considering they aren't alone in this price point and you have no clue what their finances are. If you have met Brad and Art then you know they are hardly the type of people looking to cheat their customer base.

$50 for Hoppin Frog BORIS Van Wink is a great deal. :sunglasses:

There are always a few bad apples in every bunch. Craft beer isn't immune to greed. Talking with your wallet is a good rule of thumb, but I can't assume all breweries are "doing what they feel is right." I just can't after what Hoppin Frog did with BORIS Van Wink.

I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think I was being harsh. I'm just saying that's a SHITLOAD of money for beer... I don't care how long it sat in a barrel. I am intrigued enough to try their stuff, but even some of the best beer in the world won't have me coming back at that price point, and they do brew some of the best stuff out there. I can't personally think of many (or any??) other beers that cost $1/oz, especially locally. Maybe some of the rare European imports and some sours. I don't think twice to try a new BA beer from Jackie O's, I'm just not thrilled at how much I shell out for it... that's all.

Find someone who will agree to this, and I will agree with your post. As I said in my original now removed post, I'm no J O hater, but I challenge a fanboy to make this trade. @BrewUSA was clearly right...speaking ill of J O's is sacrilegious and will not be tolerated
