I am going to Belgium this summer for a few weeks and I was wondering if there is a place in Brussels I can package and send beer back home at? I know it will be rather pricey but I would like to send a couple of packages home of the beer I collect since I won't be able to fit everything in my suitcase. Thanks
Most of the local bottle shops will do this for you, but it's cheaper to buy another suit case and check a second bag. You should be able to get 12 x 750's in under the weight limit and there are two shops that sell luggage on the same block as Cantillon...
I've traveled with a lot of beer (too much beer says my girlfriend). A hard sided suitcase, and a turn or two of bubble wrap around each bottle, clothes around the perimeter to ensure no shifting. Works great. Haven't lost a bottle yet. Had really good luck with some U-Line bubble-bags that I got in a trade once. They've crossed the Atlantic 6 times now. http://www.uline.com/BL_7600/Uline-Self-Seal-Bubble-Bags
In addition to what atpca suggested, if you can get wine shippers and pack them well, you can just check those as luggage. Of course shipping the beer means you don't have to lug it all with you to/from the airport.
Leaving the US on June 15 arriving June 16... we are staying in Brussels and we have a rental car. Plan on hitting Antwerp, Bruge, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, and a friend lives in Leige (sp?) and then we leave July 12 so we will be there basically 3 weeks.
I allow myself to promote this little beer festival in Amsterdam on June 26/27, during your Europe trip. www.wildegist.nl
When you visit brugge go to Le Trappiste. A nice bar in a cellar. With international beers and local beers. Thats my favorite in Brugge. I live near Brugge. You can also visit brugs beertje, @ the pub, rose red, de garre, de kelk, de bierboom, 2be, poatersgat, duvelorium, brugs beer museum, brewery de halve maan, gambrinus. And many more.
I will be staying in Brugge 21 & 22 June. I have all the bars you mentioned on my list, please choose your 4 favorite. Remember that I am there on a Monday & Tuesday.
I was just there yesterday. Only grabbed one beer (Boon Kriek Mariage Parfait) but it was very nice to sit outside overlooking the water. It seemed to me that Rose Red was the most overpriced spot, but I didn't have more than 1-2 beers at: Rose Red, De Garre (2 house tripels), 2be, De Kuppe and Trappiste. Climb the belfry.
Indeed Rose Red is expensive. 2Be is okay. My top 4 is: Le trappiste Brugs beertje @ the pub De Garre. When you have more time: 2Be De Kelk ( expensive) De bierboom ( cheap) Bruges beer museum Duvelorium Klein Venetiƫ ( Little/small Venice )
