This is beer advocate right? If you don't like their fried chicken or they don't offer you the right condiments for your meal then go on yelp. I would much rather talk about thoughts on vaporizer or thesaurus.

I go to Philly quite a bit, and will probably go back to Tired Hands (probably many times), but just won't get growlers there, especially since their growlers last quite a bit shorter than most other breweries I go to in NJ/NY. A two liter growler of head high at Kane is $12, and I'd pay more for it, compared to Saison or Hop Hands. Plus, their growler policy is annoying.

So how well goes Hop Hands pair with the fried chicken, and if condiments were available, would it improve the pairing?

For what it's worth, their growler filling has gotten better. Far more carbonation these days compared to how it used to be, at least over at the brew cafe.

All this talk of Fried Chicken prices, and can you really taste the difference. I have not yet been to the new Tired Hands so I can't speak to the quality. However, this past fall I was on a business trip in New Orleans and went to Emerill's restaurant (I had just visited NOLA Brewing and was a bit hazy). But we were on an expense account and a colleague and I split the Whole Fried Chicken for 2 (8 pieces), which was $60, and came with all the "fixins". Yes, incredibly expensive but not my dime. Yes, the chicken was excellent and yes, I could tell a clear difference between this chicken and KFC.

My wife's grandmother lives 15 minutes from Ardmore and I've been to Tired Hands about 6 times. Love the beer, and wish this new location all the success. Being from DC, their prices don't bother me as his prices are on par what we pay around here. If you think their prices are too high you do have a choice if you want to visit or not. You do have to pay for quality as owning and operating now two brewpubs/breweries is incredibly pricey, and based on the ingredients he is using, his beer is not cheap to make. So I get his pricing and look forward to trying his new location.

the glasses are 10 oz glasses so an 8 oz pour would be 2 oz of head

Just went last night. Got the carnitas tacos and really enjoyed them. Really nice portion of meat, and each taco actually came with two shells, so it easily could've been four tacos instead of two. More importantly, they were delicious.

The new batch of pineal is incredible. I only had about a half hour, or I would've just sat there enjoying that for a while.

Great synopsis. From the consumer's perspective, by getting 4oz pours I'm able to try everything they have on tap without getting too drunk to drive home, which I'll gladly pay a surcharge for vs having to miss out on trying a couple.

Even before you move on past the chicken itself, the local unprocessed food has additional value over what you get at Popeye's, no different than the cost of chicken at Whole Foods compared with at Super Fresh; the two may not taste any different, but you're paying a premium for the one that was responsibly (and more expensively) farmed. The difference is you choose from which grocer you get your own chicken, but not how Tired Hands sources theirs.

Well played. Glad you enjoyed your trip!

I actually really like this point, since the place is obviously centered around the beer, the idea that the food should compliment it, and not the other way around, makes pretty good sense. If a condiment would take away from the beer pairing, even if it improves the food in its own right, why use it?

I stopped by the Fermentaria this past Sunday around 3:30-4:00 pm. The tables were modestly full, but certainly plenty of open room and almost no one at the bar. Grabbed a seat at the bar, and enjoyed a few beers. We did not eat there, but my experience was just as good as every time I have been to the brew cafe. The cold brewed coffee & White Peach soda on-tap were both quite good, too. We hit up the brew cafe afterwards, because I had to try the new Can't Keep Up which by the way is really good (cucumber is definitely present). I cannot say if I would really ever eat at the Fermentaria to be honest. I much prefer the menu at the brew cafe.

The cafe has had wine in the past. I have been there and seen older couples/groups come in and some of the people ordered wine. Not sure if they are doing the same at the new place.

I've always found their policies to be kind of unfriendly. Like others have said, if the market will bear it, they can charge/mandate what ever they want but it cuts both ways: if the public is saying $28 for fried chicken is out-of-whack, than all the talk of locally sourced/hand fed chickens is their problem....

I enjoy their beer, and it's local, but it just seems like they erode customer goodwill a little too nonchalantly. The good still outweighs the bad for me, but I can see where others might not see it that way.

Agreed the mocking of reviewers was in poor taste by TH. Even if they maintain quality, that kind of hubris is unnecessary.

EDIT: As a money saving tip for people visiting TH, there is a newly opened taco place called El Limon about 200 yards from the original location (which is about a 5 min/2 block walk from the new Fermentaria). Better tasting and less expensive tacos, so you can save a few bucks eating and possibly stretch your beer budget a little further

Finally had the famed Fried Chicken. It was moist(I know the chicks love that word) but way to fucking salty. JFC.
