When I was in Norfolk last year I picked up a can of Resin. Because the can looked neat (damn marketing!) but I loved it. Wish I could get the stuff in NC.

Its not that easy, sir. Changing these dates has widespread legal implications through various chain stores and distribution contracts. We are doing the best we can to get the freshest beer possible on the shelves for our customers. This was the first step in our supply chain that we believe is a solid move in the right direction. Luckily, Resin has been sold out in many locations throughout the network, so there is no out-of-code issues, because its all gone!

we'll keep trying....one day we could be your fave, or at least in your top 3 :-)

Jammer is a riff. We're gonna keep jammin' - stay tuned!

yes, and one other X-factor - if its refrigerated, it holds up very, very well! Temperature (for cans) is the most important thing during storage - light is a non factor!

    we are working on that...

Totally agree. People need a more realistic sense of what "fresh" means when it comes to IPA's. Bottle sitting at room temperature for a month on a shelf vs a can in a refrigerator case for year is a no brainer IMO.

I bought year old torpedo tall boys out of a refrigerator case once and compared it with fresh I was surprised how little the difference was.

BTW I hope you got to enjoy some of that "old" New Glarus scream I sent you.

    I am a fan

If you like solid beers.....and a brewery that does not always follow staid "rules", they are legit!

Why not just switch to a borne-on date? As a consumer, it's much, much easier to make a decision knowing exactly how old a product is instead of having to try to find exactly how many months out the brewery marked it as "best by" and subtracting the amount of months from the best by date. Im pretty sure the majority of craft drinkers would prefer a bottled/canned-on date as well.

Yes, the born-on date is ideal for the customer. But please put yourself in the shoes of the retailer or the distributor. A best by date is MUCH more convenient for them, because they are the ones responsible for ensuring the beer is fresh and/or optimal for consumption.

Since each beer has its own shelf life trajectory, and some distributors/retail stores manage THOUSANDS of individual SKUs, it can be a nightmare to manage thousands of individual born-on dates and their corresponding expiration date.

Now that you understand the perspective of these two elements of the supply chain, I'm sure you can see why changing it is not that easy.

I really enjoy Sixpoint as well and they're usually the first beers I reach for at the store when I visit family out East. I wish they were in Arizona. :grinning:

    Here's a thought: a bottled-on and a best-by date on the same label!

    Well put...

As a retailer, simply having a born on date (or some julian code variant) can be really obnoxious when we're trying to keep the best/freshest product on the shelf... some breweries recommend 90 days, some 120, 180, 30, 60, 61, 300... simply having a "best before" date makes our lives easier as long as we simply trust the brewer....

Let's be honest.... NO BREWERY WANTS INFERIOR PRODUCT ON THE SHELF. I would trust their best-by dates and just roll with it.

    Kudos to Sixpoint.
    Love the beer too :grinning:

and I'm assuming you saw this? http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...born-on-date-for-freshest-before-date.294482/

There are actually some mechanical considerations for this @JackHorzempa - it would be nice to put both dates on there, but keep in mind you are limited as to what you can fit on the bottom of a 12oz sleek can (not too many characters). So you often have to chose one or the other...

OK, not gonna bash on you here though I think that totally lacks perspective, but what about DFH? Have you been to any festival where the head brewer is present? They hardly ever make generic brews and that dude is totally awesome and literally just LOVES BEER. And, you probably aren't too familiar yet, but Tree House...man, those people just love beer and want to make good shit, and want to make it available. They know their own taste and want to make what they think is good. And they're not ignorant -- they have a wall full of the best beer bottles rated, of all time. They know beer, ,they love beer, through and through, and that is a true beer advocate.

Not that TH is THE BEST, they might not be. But I think you shouldn't just post things about what you happen to get in stores without learning a little about what beer is around the country and world.

And there is a dude in California right now having the exact same thoughts about his local brewer. Everyone can be wrong and right at the same time, and it is still all good!
