it seems a lot of 12,000+ bottle count distributed releases are ghosts. i'm curious to see what happens with beatification.

If you want to name more, sure. I was just curious.

The only ones I have had that I liked more were 2005 kuhnhenn bbbw, wooden hell, 2011 BA hi fi, and bourbon BA little korkney. Other then that KH is a good as it gets for me, but obviously to each their own.

We can have the same discussion for most of the new released beers: KH, Black Note, Chocolate Rain 2012, Beatification b5, BA Hi fi, Czar Jack, KtG 2012... If all of them become "whales", do their trade value should be similar? So, is the term" whales" relevant anymore?

Irregardless isn't a word and those beers aren't whales. Although I don't really think there's a ton of value in having "whale" be a meaningful word. People who say "irregardless", however, can DIAF.

I find that formula great for arranging my beers on my shelf. Alphabetical also works well.

I was under the impression the wale scoring formula was axxed in favor of BTU's (Black Tuesday Units) ?

    Not exactly.
    To make the old adage fit more properly, it should be reworded to;
A king Henry in the hand is worth two on the shelf.

BTU inflation out of control, it's becoming too unstable to be a useful quantifier. Basically it's going the way of the peso.

 So you will have shelf 1 for tier one beer, shelf 2 for second tier and so on ? I used it to know which beers I should try to save in case of emergency. Oh and my TV too.

We should keep BTU but changed to Beatification Trading Unit.

No no, the point is to hunt whales. This formula insures I will not have any tier 2 beers.

    What makes a Whale:

    Bottle count < 200 - add 10 points

    Bottle count > 201 < 1000 - add 4 points

    Bottle count > 1001 < 3000 - add point

    Retail cost < $20 > $40 - add point

    Retail cost < $40 - add 5 points

Brewery only release - add 5 points

From Founders, Portsmouth, Cigar City, Hill Farmstead, Bells - add point

From Lost Abbey, Russian River, Goose Island, Three Floyds - add 2 points

From Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, De Molen, Narke, Struise - add 5 points

Not from any of these breweries - minus 3 points

Europe only release - add 10 points

Europe only release from Cantillon/3 Fonteinen - add 10 points

Bourbon Barrel aged - add 3 points

Pappy Van Winkle? - add 10 points

Rum, Wine, Tequila Barrel aged - add 1 point

Imperial Stout, Double IPA, Sour, Barleywine - add 3 points

Greater than 15% ABV - add 3 points

Less than 5% ABV - minus 3 points

    Ebay listing < $50 - minus 5 points

    Ebay listing > $100 - add point

    Ebay listing > $300 - add 10 points

Add 1 points for each year cellared < 10

    By this scale -

    > 10 points = Semi-Whale
    > 15 points = Whale
    > 20 points = Grey Whale
    > 30 points = White Whale
    > 50 points = Uber Whale

Interesting. What about a factor for taste, whether or not it's retired? Also, a beer being PVW aged gets it as many points as a beer that lists for over $300 on eBay? Seems like too much bias for the PVW barrel. Only white whales ever sell for that much on eBay, so that alone should garner more points. The rarity shift from $100+ a bottle to $300+ is very steep
