And here's ANOTHER issue, one that eventually will need to remedied. And again, this stems from the overproduction of double IPAs/barrel-aged imperial stouts. The review averages are slowly becoming higher and higher...

Numbers are easy once you practice them. :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually don't rate beers either, but if I did, I would apply the same logic as I do with people and respect. People don't earn my respect... They already have it, and can only go down from there. Same with beer. They all start as a 5 and lose points for things in the appearance/enjoyment/quality/etc that I find less than ideal.

I also don't think a person's ratings are very meaningful anyway, except to that individual. Some people rate to style, some rate purely on enjoyment. In the end it's all for fun.

Just tweeted (or something) recently that they were putting Aaron down for two years. So we wait.

Beer on the internet is serious business.

    Lighten up.

This is actually the beer I listed in the "everyone loves it but you" thread. I'm lost on this one. Bought a four pack, and have choked down 3 so far, still have 1 left to try to "get it". I'm obviously not a drain pour type. The jet-fuel heat seems to overwhelm every other aspect of the beer that might interest me. Perhaps a bad batch or 4-pack? I'm a reasonable guy, give me some hints.

Oh yeah, to the point: Boulevard Saison Brett. Best beer I've had in the past year or so.

I've never given a beer a perfect score or rating....but a few have come close to perfection. Malheur 12 and Rochefort 10 being that close.

Why don't you just make 10 louder, make 10 the top?

Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock. It's everything there is to love about the Tap 6 Aventinus, concentrated. Easily as powerful and complex as any quadrupel I've ever tasted, and then some (side note: I have Abt 12 rated over a 4.9, and Rochefort 10 right up there with it, so it's not beating them by much for me - just barely).

I've also rated Ayinger Brau-Weisse a perfect 5, though I can understand where other folks prefer other hefeweizens. That one just strikes precisely every last nuance and note I personally want in a hefe.

The way 2009 batch 4 Temptation is drinking right now.

BCBS Rare shortly after it's release.

    PtE

Throw 2-3 years age on The Abyss.

Those are the closest I've had to perfect beers for their style... Or beer period for that matter.

I don't always give out 5's, but when I do I prefer Dos Equis .... er, I mean the other bottle with red / white / gold / green label - PLINY!

I have rated over 4,000 beers on here so far. Just checked and I have given scores of 4.9 or higher to 0.42% of those beers.

    HF/grassroots has 7 of the 17.

Thank you. Too many people fail to understand this. You can have multiple fives in one style. Stop comparing pilsners to BA Stouts.

Exactly. And who says 5 is "Perfect" anyway? It's really just the elite, top echelon- those beers do exist, and there can be more than one.

I've only given one, and it took me some time to be okay with raising the previously affixed 4.9.
