Hi all- I'm from NJ and I'll be staying with a few friends in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday night. Never been to Raleigh before- looking for some good craft beer recommendations (bars, restaurants, breweries/brewpubs, and of course what awesome local beers I should be on the lookout for).

    Thanks!

As for beers, you can't go wrong with just about anything Wicked Weed. If you're a hop guy and have not had NoDa (based out of Charlotte) Hop Drop 'n Roll then try that. Shouldn't be too tough to find at bottles shops or restaurants you'll check out.

Thanks man! Haven't tried NoDa or anything by Wicked Weed- now I'm on a mission

Sam's Quick Shop in Durham is not too far away and very much worth the trip if you have a car. I would also add Bottle Revolution and Tasty Beverage for bottle shops in Raleigh. Busy Bee is fantastic (great tap list and solid food), and the owners also own Trophy Brewing which churns out some pretty solid beers, and the pizza is solid there as well. Poole's Diner is a great place to grab some dinner as well. I'd be wary of some of the WW stuff, as a bunch of the sours I have had have been diacetyl bombs. Really hit or miss, but the hits are very good, and the misses should clean up with time. Raliegh is pretty great for beer, and @Axnjxn could probably point you in the direction of things going on specifically there this week, or add on to anything I've missed.

Swing by Trophy if you're in the mood for pizza and a beer

There are beer stores everywhere in Raleigh, so getting your hands on some local bottles will be easy. You should be able to ask for recommendations at any of the top shops and walk away with quality stuff. I'll add two shops to the list: Ridgewood and the new-ish State of Beer (owned by the Busy Bee/Trophy folks).

If you do make it to Tasty (which I highly recommend), go around the corner to Crank Arm Brewing.

I've finally given up on Brewmasters. I used to think of it as a sort of hidden gem downtown, but the service, food, and selection have all gone down hill. Head more downtown and do Raleigh Times and Busy Bee instead.

Hearing great things about Trophy so far, gotta check them out! Is their beer only available at their brewery?

Only a couple of their offerings have ever impressed me, but other people seem to like the place, so check it out. Be very careful about parking around there too - some lots look good, but your car will be towed in minutes.

Trophy is small and gets crowded, so give yourself enough time. It's first come, first serve for tables. You may have to wait if you head there around 6:00, but it will be totally worth it. There should be some parking around back.

There's a state lot right behind us (Trophy) that's open after 5:30pm and all day Saturdays and Sundays. There's also street parking around us, but as Wedge said, don't park in the apartment lots next door. They're all marked with signs so it shouldn't be any issue. Hope you can make it by!

You'll be disappointed if you go to Raleigh Times.

I haven't been to the Times in awhile. I generally opt for Busy Bee if I'm in the area. What makes the Times disappointing these days?

If it is still on, be sure to grab Lord Stanley at Trophy. It is the barrel aged wee heavy. It is normally one of my favorites, but this latest batch is just spot on.

High prices, low quality selection, and overcrowding. Busy Bee is a far, far superior option. All other recs in here are great ones, but I loathe the Times.

That makes sense. There was a time when the Times had a decent selection, but that sort of started slipping, and I pretty much stopped going. I almost exclusively hit up the Bee.
