How was it? Did anywhere close to 400 people show up?

When I got back to pick up, they were at just over 250 tickets. They stil had a couple hours left, though.

They did say that there was a 3:00 cut off, then they were going to offer any bottles that were left to the staff. Not sure what the plan was for anything left after that.fa

There had to have been about 50 bottles left when they shut the gate at 3.

I hope they honor their statement of giving the rest to the staff. Keeping the brew cafe chugging along while getting the fermentaria up and running is deserving of a bottle or 2.

Yes, think that is what they should do.

Whats the trade value on this beer? I've got someone wanting to ask for the moon (multiple barrel aged Bruery beers that are valued at $40 a piece or more) and I just don't think its worth that.

Brewery only, 1 per person, approx 600 bottles

1 SitR w/ Peaches doesn't get it done, but dropping a couple 'day variants seems to be an expensive price to enter.

Bruery is a tough trade comparison, cuz their bottles tend to be pricy.

I basically said the cost is $18 and I'll come up to $25 worth of beer but he wanted like $50 worth. It doesn't seem to add up to me.

People trade on different factors. Rarity is one of those factors, and Para4 is definitely "rarer" than the Bruery allocations. I could see it taking a Black Tuesday and a Grey Monday or something like that. It definitely won't trade for one.

However, a good trader would balance you out on both $$$ and ounces. I would see if he won't hook you up with a growler from Tired Hands to even it up a bit.

Really? Trust me, I get rare and the premium you pay for it but you honestly think a fair trade would be $70 worth of beer for $18 (just purely looking at face values)

I got a bottle of 13' Prop for a much better deal than that and I would consider that to be a much more sought after beer.

I get the "rarer" argument but what about the price and difficulty of obtaining factors.

Surely a beer is going to be easier to obtain if you live closer to the brewery but it seems like it takes a lot more effort and money to obtain these Society Bruery releases than it does a TH bottle. Anyone who showed up at TH on Sunday could have walked away with the $18 bottle.. no membership, no lottery, nothing more than a little effort. That doesn't seem to be the case for beers like Black Tuesday & Grey Monday, on top of them costing almost double after taxes.

For my own learning purposes, could someone throw out a beer or two that many would agree to be a fair straight-up trade for a Para4?

these last few posts make me even more happy that i trade on a $4$ level. value trading is brutal and comical. if we all want to be true beer advocates, perceived "value" doesnt mean shit.

What I think is irrelevant. It's what you and the other party think is what matters. My general impression, though, is that a barrel aged Bruery "day" beer (with the exception of possibly Mocha Wednesday or one of the BT variants) would not get done 1:1 for a one bottle, prestige release at a brewery like Tired Hands. And for the record, I'm a Society member and someone who went to the Para4 release, so I don't have a dog in this fight.

My reason for thinking this is that a lot of people value the "rarity" factor and are in this game to maximize trade value. I don't like it any more than you do, but it is what it is.

Let's suppose you're offering a Black Tuesday or a Grey Monday. I don't think that will get done. I think it would take both. However, I think the other guy should definitely hook you up with some TH growlers or something of that ilk to level off the $4$ and the ounces. That's what a good trader would do. If he refuses to do that, then I wouldn't trade with him.

The simple fact is that the Society releases (other than the one-off exclusives like, say, a Rum BT) have become a lot more accessible due to the volume that the Bruery produces (Grey Monday goes from a one bottle exclusive to 6 bottles two years later) and the online accessibility. Anyone in the country with the $$$ can have access to this stuff. So some people, for better or worse, don't hold them in the same light as a true brewery only release.

Just my $.02. In the end, you should do what you're comfortable with. I understand (and agree with most of) everything you're saying. A good trader will recognize the disparity and try to get you more comfortable. I've never had a Para, but I can't imagine it being worth what you'd be giving up.

That seems sorta ridiculous. No experience with Para4, but I traded my Para2 for a Huna '14, we both seemed happy with the deal. I likely woulda have traded for a BT or GM as well, but thats me, dont think its worth taking some guy over the coals.
