I agree with pretty much eveything you said. and to your points in the first paragraph I think that is disapointing.

There's a difference between having a constructive opinion and being arrogant and/or belligerent.

You should try learning the difference sometime. Cheers. I will agree to disagree with you. This conversation is clearly going nowhere.

Then you should rate BA Stouts higher than pilsners. The idea that the "best" of every beer style should rate at a 5 or close to it is THE dumbest proposition that I've heard (at least recently). That means that the best AAL should garner a 5... as well as the best malt liquor... and the best low alcohol beer too.

Do you really want to defend that proposition considering those inferior styles or do you just want to stick with under-appreciated styles like pilsners because it makes your drivel sound somewhat logical?

You started the belligerence with commentary such as "(t)hat is the dumbest thing I have ever read."

Don't attempt to exit the conversation with some pompous platitude when you're the one who dropped the level of decorum down in the first place.

Don't give out 5s, but I would say Nelson Showers and Citra Showers are pretty damn close.

No the best beer in a style deserves a 5 IMO of course. But we can certianly agree to disagree.

Rating something a perfect 5 doesn't mean No beer can be better than it? I think that interpretation of rating something a 5 is off. Rating a 5 means that for That specific style Only, the beer is a Perfect interpretation of that style- there can be multiple 5's bc every single style can have a "5" for that specific type of beer-and there can be multiple 5's within a specific style. An oatmeal stout that is a perfect interpretation/concoction of what an oatmeal stout should be according to National Beer Guidelines should get a 5. Now if someone adds raisins or coffee to a different "perfect" Oatmeal stout- it's a different beer in the same style that may still be considered a 5.

Ehh what the hell do I know- I'm half in the bag now!

    Cheers all!

    PS IMO 2013 BCBCS is a 5!, 2014 BCBCS is a 4.25 at best!

Wyerbacher- Imperial Pumpkin Ale- it is liquid pumpkin pie. And Founder's Breakfast Stout-I didn't quite give it a 5 when I rated it but I should have.

Just because you rate a particular beer a 5 at the time you drink it, doesn't mean nothing can ever equal or beat it. You don't have only one 5 to give out. You can have many 5s, they're called your favorites at the time of the rating. You can have more than one favorite, especially if you enjoy different styles. I'm always discovering new favorites

Everyone's tastes are different. Personally, I hate the hoppy bitterness.
Food pairings will affect the taste too.
The atmosphere for drinking is also different in most occasions. Drinking in a bar or pub, at a bar-b-q, hot weather, cold weather, drinking alone, drinking with friends, etc. So that being said...my 5 may be a 2-3 to someone else.
But the closest beer/ale to a 5 that I've had the pleasure to drink so far...Maudite, by Unibroue. :sunglasses:
