I sent this in the Stout BIF. Vets had it.

What is the schedule for their BA beers?

No set schedule. BA stuff goes on at the Weasel sporadically and with minimal notice, usually kicking the same day.

And not all bottles were infected. Between my own and friends I had maybe 10 bottles of this, and only 1 or 2 were infected

Just curious: how can one tell that a bottle is infected?

It depends on the infection... sour/tart flavors in a beer that shouldn't feature them is the #1 sign and pretty tell-tale (as in the case of Yeti for instance)

Pretty much this. BA Yeti should taste essentially how you think it would. If it's infected it will have sour "gamey" notes that are usually unmistakable. The best description I once got was - "if it tastes like Jolly Pumpkin and it's not supposed to."
Many also develop a slickness to the mouthfeel and other off notes like diacetyl as well. The trick is - it doesn't have to mean the beer is horrible. In theory it can even be quite good...albeit unintentionally good. Then there are instances where the brewer IS trying to "infect" a beer to get those flavors, but BA Yeti definitely wasn't one of those.

Open one lately? A buddy and I probably went through close to 40 bottles(yes that is a lot we were drinking a bottle or two a night for at least a month) when they were relatively fresh and were all great. The last 3 I opened were infected and everyone I know that opened one in pretty much the last year said theirs was infected. As far as how can you tell, with the infected Yetis you know right when you opened it. Gusher, funk smell and awful taste. GD will take em back and give you a $25 credit for each one which is pretty bad ass on their part.

Not lately, probably two years ago. I still have one or two more buried in the cellar, should probably get to drinking those.

FIFY-seriously though, let us know how they turn out. I'd bet dollars to donuts they are infected. If you have two and an AHA card you can get a 5 gallon keg of Yeti, its the best deal in town.

Funny enough, I hadn't had an infected Yeti until about a year ago. I thought it was just a bunch of talk. The last two I've had were infected. I wonder if it's like the Black Tot thing, where they were okay initially, but "turned."

Yea, they called it "Bretty Yeti" when they intentionally infected it. (had it at sour fest 2 years ago)

"Gushing" "Green Apple" "Sour/Tart" all tell tale signs for a infected BA stout.

BA Yeti was at Avery Strong Ale Fest last month, on tap of course. No idea if that was a secret fresh batch or the 2011 but it was tasting AWESOME. Zero of the infection off flavors that have been mentioned here.

Figured I'd just post again here instead of starting a new thread.

Has anyone opened a bottle of Commodore recently?

I opened one last weekend and found the flavor completely off from what it was on tap. It smelled kind of sour, more like tart cherry. The bourbon completely dropped and though it had kind of a cocoa tasting middle, the finish ended sour.

This was the first bottle I had opened, I had only had it on tap before. So I can't say if the bottle tastes different than it did originally, but it sure tasted way different than on tap.

To make sure I just opened my second bottle and it's the same.

For being only just over 2 months old, that would be one major drop off. Infection maybe? Did the bottle taste funky to begin with?

Has anyone else given it a try recently?

    To add something positive:

Had Beryl's Firecatcher, 7.5% stout aged in Fireside Whiskey barrels from Mile High Spirits

I thought this one was very good. Quite frankly it was the first Beryl beer I actually liked.

If you're referring to the Copper Kettle 18 year Macallen, no where. According to CK they had the one keg for their anniversary and that was it. I couldn't say if the keg kicked or not, so if there's some left they may break it out at some point, or they may do another batch. Hopefully they'll do another batch.
