Not ridiculous. Just fun. It started out with a few of us with the goal of trying 365 different beers in a year. Well, I'm an overachiever. It's really not that difficult. We share. There's a local ale haus with 30 beers on tap (all craft). Etc.

I'm still willing to try anything (I dislike sours but hosted a sour tasting). But this year, my focus will be on drinking stuff I know I liked from last year.

In my opinion, I'd say I'm diverse. I'm looking over my beer reviews along with my "hads" list and am seeing a fair amount of different styles, brands and from various countries. I do notice I have stuck to a particular style for a short period or even a company for a period but that may be due to a variety pack that was bought or a seasonal that is marketed. Overall, I know I could do better, but I know I'm getting there.

Now that sounds like a good idea

It depends. When I go somewhere to buy beer I often plan on buying something other than my usual DIPA/IIPA or stout. That rarely happens. I usually find a DIPA/IIPA that I haven't had before and give in. I've also noticed I'm starting to drift back towards my favorites. However, when I go to a brewery I usually try as many styles as possible and then enjoy a pint or two...or three, or four, or five, of my favorites. :grinning:

I'm diverse. I'm forcing myself to be diverse just so I can finish my personal challenge of consuming at least 200 unique beers before the end of the year. I don't want to face style burnout.

Some of us tickers have way more than that per year. I am sitting at around almost 300 different beers for the year and it's only the beginning of March.

I think you're cheating yourself if you limit yourself to a single style. Being adventurous is always fun and yields some of the best discoveries - this is true for food as well as beer.

OP - I think you're getting overly hung up on the country thing though. People may tend to stick to styles or categories, but drinking only individual countries isn't terribly common (at least around these parts). You can prefer Belgian or German styles but still enjoy a beer brewed in the US. Your decision to call "American Craft" a country of preference ala Belgian or German is really off to me - as craft breweries reproduce virtually every style known to man (in many countries mind you).

In any case, to answer your question: Yes. I am very diverse. I easily get sick of the same thing, and very rarely can drink even two of the same beer in the row unless I'm at a party or somewhere when the selection is limited. I'll be at the bar for happy hour and drink a DIPA, a BB RIS, and a Flanders. Then grab a growler of local Munich Helles on the way home. Then the next night enjoy a homebrewed American Stout or Amber, and today I brewed a Scotch Heavy and a Dark Mild.

I'd have mentioned gueuze in there but I just can't afford to drink my favorite style regularly.

I mostly stick to sours, IPA's and hoppy reds as my go tos. I still try lots of others though. That's why I enjoy trading. With the exception of most smoked beers and spiced beers, I'll drink just about anything although I never go to the store with he intention of buying a Belgian Pale or Brown Ale, but if one arrives on my front porch, I'll put it down.

Im willing to give different styles a try but i always find myself coming back to AWA or Gueuze. Ill have an IPA when im doing yard work or something like wrenching on my truck, but at the end of the night when i want to relax and enjoy a beer i head to the cellar (mini fidge lol) and grab a sour

While I have my favorite styles, I can honestly say within the last month I have drank at least ten different styles of beer.

Recently I've decided to branch out from my normal go-to brews and have been buying a new six-pack each Friday after work in order to broaden my horizons. So far it has been fantastic as I've found some great new beers that I probably would never have discovered otherwise.

Another idea I'm going to incorporate is a lot of places have "build your own sixers" where you can really branch out and try some new things.

I always rotate daily. I like to start the night with an RIS or Barley Wine then on to sours and close with IPAs. Booyahshaka

I'm not very diverse in that I mostly drink only IPA's and Porter/Stout's, however when I go to the store my goal is to try a beer I haven't had yet. Living in Washington this is easy to do, because there are so many choices coming out of WA, OR, and CA. I may not be very diverse in style, but I am in breweries and "sub-styles".

I have had tons of IPAs and a good amount of stouts. They are by far my favorite. But I do like to try different things. I Have recently been getting into belgians and other styles. I tried a sour, that was pretty good. I love trying things I have never had. I am always looking for something new.

Living in PA I tend to stick with variety American craft cases to please my wife and help increase my beer ticks, but when I am out at bars I'll try a little bit of everything.

Try to be diverse. It depends a lot of the season for me. I love porters and stouts all year long. But when it gets really hot i tend to lean more towards IPA's and Ambers. Pilsners even have their place on a hot day at a cookout

My tastes go everywhere. Ive just never been able to get into Dubbels, but Ive got a Westvleteren 8 coming soon. Other than that, I pretty much drink everything under the sun. I tend to avoid Kolschs as well.
