I do like hair of the dog (see: me standig in line at 6am, shameless promotion (bumper sticker on my car)). I didn't like my tasting room experience lately. I've shown my appreciation many times, in many ways. Please don't mistake this criticism for a dislike in general.

As for this being the appropriate place, we needed some balance on the HoTD Forum . I'll gladly provide my feedback directly to Alan. In fact it seems by posting here we have discovered even more people who have similar criticisms which can be aggregated and passed along. Also, Alan reads the forum.

The idea that a brewery opening a tasting room being "gracious" is a bit of an odd concept to me, but I guess sort of in line with the underlying perspective here ("we owe everything to HoTD, they can do no wrong, etc").

I hear you, but I assume the comment was made in an historical context. The taproom has only been open a couple of years now, and before that it was a pretty big deal to ever find HOTD beers on tap, especially the "from the wood" stuff. With the taproom now open, not only can you enjoy HOTD beers on tap whenever you want, there is almost always a couple of interesting vintage, from the wood beers on tap as well. Add to that the various vintage bottled beers you can find there as well, and yeah, I can see where one might feel pretty grateful for the taproom.

That being said, benefitting the local BA community wasn't the only reason HOTD decided to open the taproom (obviously).

All that aside, you must not have been on BA very long if you think that never a discouraging word is ever said about HOTD. No need to rehash old news, but I doubt if even HOTD's most ardent admirers would suggest that HOTD can do no wrong.

Yeah, I hear that about it being better than it ever was for drinking HoTD beers. I am super grateful for that and the beers are with few exceptions, world class. I show my appreciation with mY wallet and in other ways.

I have actually been on BA for about seven years an have followed this forum for a lot of that time. I am familiar with the criticisms especially regarding quality and recent bottle releases. That said, the criticisms in my post about the tasting room got nitpicked apart and defended in a way you would never see for any other brewery. On cue. They coalesced with the gracious comment. I find it more amusing than anything.

Anyway, I will ease up on the generalizations. I know not everyone puts HoTD on the holy level.

    Totally agree there.

FWIW, I know the staff have been suffering on some of these hot days even more than the clientele. I suspect they will work on some way to improve that situation, but installing new A/C or ducting isn't something you can just do overnight.

I translate this as: "I came to stir the pot, got defensive responses, then realized I didn't like it when no one patted me on the back, so now I'm going to insult people."

Good post up until the insulting people part. I didn't mean to personally insult anyone at all. If I did, my apologies (to be clear that's sincere).

    Red Medicine-

I'm definitely not an apologist for Hotd or any other brewery. I truly don't understand the second issue. Flat pricing likely makes it easier for staff and customers to efficiently order and serve beer.

I'm curious about the other two. Did you contact the brewery or the tap room manager before outing the concerns here? If it were my business and someone approached me constructively about the issues, I would appreciate it. If I read this thread with the somewhat snarky and sarcastic comments, I would likely blow it off.

And once again it comes down to picking apart semantics and choosing sides. I don't even know why I comment in these threads. It's a losing battle. :astonished:

All I'm saying is be happy you have so many great breweries in PDX. It's the fucking service industry. You're not ALWAYS going to have a great experience. Deal with it.

Dude, I am totally happy about all of the breweries I have access to in PDX. If you assumed otherwise from my OP, it was a misinterpretation on your part, and that at least is not semantics.

I'll see you around on the Internet, on the positive-only side!
