There is rarely a better time than NOW!

Sometimes for giggles I grab something few I know have had and even fewer have had a knock it of--by myself.

But then I LOVE to share.

    Both are perfect.

It's pretty sad when a formerly beer gets opened way past it's prime.

I understand cellaring and that whole process/thing. I will never, ever understand buying beer and not drinking it or not intending to drink it.

Well done sir, your powers of deduction aren't easily overlooked. I definitely started this thread because of the (ridiculous) backlash to the Cable Car Seattle thread. And this was/is only meant to help myself and others understand everyones take on the subject. Super simple.

That is the back side of a 2015 VBDL......... Only 1 of 6 people in my group won 3 years in a row. Finally got an early winner and got to try this baby.

To me, the reward for the amount of driving/effort that I put into getting some of the rarer beers I've had is actually drinking them. Alone, with friends (whether they can appreciate it or not), or with family.

I always intend to hang on to a rare beer for a while before drinking it. My curiosity usually gets the best of me though within a few minutes of getting it home:astonished:

When I can't buy two of a whale it puts me in a real dilemma. I like to taste one on my own in the quiet of my tastebuds and me, and then find/create the right bottle share gathering to bring it out with some experience leading to good conversation.

Don't think I like trading, ... I dunno, maybe that comes from being criticized as a child for my gift wrapping abilities,...

What whales I hoard are all barrel aged stouts or barley wines - every other whale gets drank right away, but full disclosure I don't buy many whales that are not barrel aged. I just can't seem to hold onto sour whales at all, they get popped right away because my crew is nutz for them. I have two high abv stout whales not BA right now, but those will go down the next meaty BBQ.

If it's on a tap list it isn't a whale.

I get that it is VBDL

but what is with the hand in the background? To whom does it belong? Is it real? If so, is it attached to a body? If so, where is that body? Where was the pic taken?

I won't be able to sleep until these questions are answered.

Drinking whales.. What is this heresy you speak of?
If you can't put it on a shelf next to all the other whales and post pics on beer forums then what good are they?

Most probably wouldn't consider this a "whale" but I had a situation like the one OP describes. I had the opportunity to try Pliny the Elder while out on the west coast on draft instead of a bottle that I was looking for. I didn't hesitate.

Lol!!! My group meet back up in our truck later in the day at which point we did some said drinking....... The hand is real and attached to a body in a capt's chair in the middle of the vehicle while the pic of the beer taken was in the back of the vehicle. At one point minutes after this picture was taken that said hand actually held a 4-5oz pour of the bottle pictured.
