Smog City Appreciation

Anyone here try Cuddlebug yet? Would be interested to hear how this compares to other stone fruit sours.

 

I tried Cuddle Bug at the Anniversary party and consider it a solid sour. They really nailed the peach fuzz skin taste and reminded me of Mission Impeachable. Wish I could get bottles at the release, but will be in Paso-out (i.e., FWIBF).

 

Any update on today's release ?

 

Release was pretty easy. Got here at ten till noon, got bottles and pours by 1240. Place is still packed but the line to buy bottles is short now

Cuddlebug is quite unique and good

 

It was easier to get bottles that it was to get a pour! But overall it was an easy release. Cuddlebug is tasting mighty fine to me

 

Got there at 2:30, easy pick up. Cuddle bug is really good.

I would probably buy Coffee Porter more often if it were in the 4.99 5.99 price range. For 5.99 I could just pick up a solid Lagunitas stout in a 22 Oz bottle.

 

I was there last weekend, really liked the Kumquat and Plum saisons, and Goldie was excellent. The Chip Shot coffee porter smelled amazing, but I felt like it was a bit out of balance; I say that as someone who normally likes really bold coffee beers, like Big Bad Baptist. Having sampled most of the draft menu among friends' tasters, Smog City is excellent at bringing out really strong flavors, but a couple of them were a little too over the top. Prices are reasonable, and I'm glad to have gotten a few of the Bourbon O.E. while we were there.

Overall, Monkish and Ladyface are still my favorite LA-metro spots, but I'm definitely looking forward to more great things to come from Smog City.

 

Is cuddlebug brewery only release or will it see any distribution ? Wonder if any will make it through next week when I'm back in LA. ISO! Haha

 

I was told they had already sold half when I called at 2:30 yesterday before heading over. If they're not sold out yet, they're probably very close, as the tasting room was quite busy the whole time I was there with bottles flying out the door.

It was a 6 bottle limit like with Infinite Wishes, so I'm assuming that means there's not enough for distribution

 

Bottles were substantially better than draft if anyone is curious. Less sour but the fruit shines so much more. the nose is amazing, like fresh peach skins still on the tree

 

Post this morning says 35 cases left.

 

35 cases left. They open at noon today. I'd be shocked if it lasted the day.

Was there yesterday around 3:30-4pm. Cuddlebug was awesome. Kumquat Saison still tasty. Grape Ape was a lot better than I remember--and such an amazing nose! Steamfunk was really great, too. If anyone was complaining about the brett in it, they're morons who don't know what brett is.

The beer that most surprised me, though, was Chip Shot. I had no idea what to expect but I definitely picked up on the candied orange flavor and I absolutely LOVED it! I wish they bottled this one. It'd be a staple in my fridge, for sure!

 

If Anybody goes down and grabs a few extra bottles, please message me! Very interested in this release and I'm traveling til Wednesday.

 

Chip Shot is my wife's favorite beer. And she tells the folks at Smog all the time how much she loves it. We walk in and if they have it on tap, Tall Ryan doesn't even ask for her order. Pretty much has it ready for her by the time she gets to the counter.

 

The Ryans and Josh are awesome. Love that I'm a minute away.
