Imperial stouts in April or May would be better.

Well I have no problem with that aspect of his suggestion. In fact, I drank my last '10 KtG while vacationing on the Cape last summer. But no, not while on the beach in the middle of a 90 degree day. It was great on a late summer evening.

This was my first Kate Day, and I'd do it again tomorrow if I could. Yes, it was freezing and the wait was long (I got there at 8am). But, we met a ton of fellow insane beer geeks and generally had a great time. Kate was delicious, the food was way above what I expected and the atmosphere was phenomenal.

We were lucky enough to get in 10 minutes before the speeches and official tapping, and we were able to get a seat in the main room. I had five Kates, drank a bunch of water, ate great food and shared the experience with a good friend and a revolving rotation of beer geeks in the seat accross form us (any open seat was immediatelly filled by someone in line).

Next year I'll get there at 7 am to be sure we get a table for our group of 4, 5, whatever...

The guy in front of us in line flew in from Maryland for this. That's my kind of crazy.

Also, if I lived around Portsmouth, I'd go to that brewery all the time. Their other beers are great, the food is great, the staff is great and it's cool atmosphere all the time. I'd be even fatter than I am now, but dammit it would be a fun life.

I thought it was fun this year, but it will probably be my last KTG day.

Chowdahead and I got in line at 8:00 right as the church bells rang. Hung out with some great BAs in line, including Satchboogie and the Manch-Vegas misfits - you guys were great. Big thanks to Cam (urbancaver) for running a fun BIF. Yeah, it was brutally cold at times, but the time passed quickly. Long story short, we were the last two people seated before the cutoff, so I felt very lucky. Sat at a booth in the bar with a great couple, had a few Kates and laughs, service was fast and very good, and people seemed happy and chill. I do agree that 2012 Kate is a bit more dry than last year, but it is still a fantastic vintage. I was expecting a sh$tshow, and maybe to some it was, but I thoroughly enjoyed the day and met some cool beer fans. P-brew may have botched the scratch tickets a bit this year, but they made up for it on Kate Day. P.S., Gary the accordian player is the man!

How did that BIF go anyways? Anything of note?

I walked away with an Exponential Hoppiness, and pretty pumped about it. Curious to see who got my Brute and what other beers switched hands.

Sounds like a good time, I definitely wanted to participate if I was going to go yesterday.

I wasn't part of the BIF but traded with urban and saw someone walking away with your brute and they were definitely pretty pumped. Think they gave him a lawson's bottle..

I walked away with a Pisgah Vortex II and gave a Damon. Hope whoever got it enjoys it. Definitely an awesome idea for a BIF. Thanks Cam.

Portsmouth Brewery is great. You (and others) should visit more often. Take away Kate Day and you're left with a really great brewpub experience that is worth the trip in itself. Portsmouth also makes for a great quick Saturday night getaway.

Thanks for the Brute! I was definitely pumped when I walked away with that bottle. Going to enjoy it for sure. Good times at Kate Day all around (except for one of the Manch crew dropping an ice ball on my head from the top story of the parking garage. Luckily it was so cold out and I was so hung over from ElGallo's and my Sunday tasting session that I couldn't feel anything!).

One of the more frustrating things about this year's KTG Day was that there was nothing else of note on tap. I enjoy Bottle Rocket and Grand Cru, but last year it was nice to get a growler fill of their IIPA to crack open on St. Patty's day two weeks later.

Somebody's gotta lose I guess, just sucks that someone would ante up a beer thats likely infected and well below what others are putting in like Damon,Brute,Expo etc.
