I'm a bit surprised that Breakfast Stout seems to turn so quickly. Personally, I've found the lighter and more delicate the beer, the more likely it is to show off flavors and smells. I'm particularly sensitive to pilsners and kölschs. When drunk early, they are divine. For example, I had an opportunity to taste Budvar right out of the bright tank the day before bottling. It was spectacular. I have never had a similar experience in the US with that beer.

I second this...didn't think it was the case until @JackHorzempa pointed it out and I ran a taste test myself...

90% of Alpine Brewing beers (all their hoppy beers). Especially Nelson. 2 weeks it starts to degrade. 1 month is still tasty and hoppy. 6 weeks, noticeably not as good. That's why it's good to live in San Diego!

Have you experienced improved beer life for Alpine beers since Green Flash purchased Alpine?

@Domingo posted about the improved Green Flash packaging line here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...ve-impressive-shelf-life.288551/#post-3616045

    Cheers!

I believe it is awesome until 2 weeks, 2 days, and 3 hours. At 2 weeks, 2 days, and 4 hours it is a drainpour.

I was just thinking about this. I'm sending some Transmigration of Souls in a trade. My personals that i have are dated 4/29, and the stuff I'm sending is 5/26. A remarkable difference in one month.

Also, anyone trying to get Tropicalia (it's sold out EVERYWHERE around me btw) that drops off fast too. They put a sticker with the canned date on top of the plastic 6 pack holder, don't let anyone ship you anything that's not under 2 weeks!

Brooklyn lager goes quick. Older bottles leave a sticky sweet coating that is very sugary that I do not like. Fresh is much more balanced.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have found that once an IPA gets a month on it it tends to fall from grace. Although some may disagree.

If you buy a fresh case and keep it refrigerated, then it will last quite a bit longer than that. When I ran my own test, though, the room temperature one after 3 months was noticeably different from refrigerated, and kind of 'blah'.

BTW- by 'refrigerated' I mean food fridge, not beer fridge.

I don't get the hate on aged breakfast stout, it does change a lot with time, but I'm not sure it's for the worse. It is a great beer fresh and it's just as good with a year or two on it it is just different not worse.

Where are you in NJ? I have seen regular Sculpin and Grapefruit less than two weeks old in cans pretty frequently at Wegmans and Joe Canals.

OK, admitted IPA/DIPA'S in can format DO last MUCH longer...but the fresher the better when it comes to IPA's.
