Haven't been living around here too long and have yet to familiarize myself with the local beer distributors. Looking for some help finding one that has an awesome can selection. I'm leaving in 9 days to go to Bonnaroo and there is no glass allowed there, and I'd much rather be open and honest than try to hide a ton of bottles. I'd be even more appreciative if the distributor's can selection includes a hearty selection of local brews, as there has been a craft beer exchange organized and everyone's trying to bring stuff from their locale.

    Thank you so much!

If you can find fresh Sculpin that is a great beer.

I don't think there are any interesting local NY canned beers, I wish there were. I don't consider Sixpoint a local being brewed in TN. But most beer distributers have a good can selection at good prices. Being outdoors I'd load up on Summerfest and any good Kolsch you can find in cans.
    Where do you live?

jrnyc: thanks for the recommend, I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

ecpho: I live in Brooklyn, but have no qualms with taking a train somewhere to get what I'm after. If some upstate brews have to get mixed in with my selection it wouldn't bother me. My buddy already has the LI selection covered; he's the kind of guy who has a brew shed, which he hopes to turn into something bigger, so I trust his selection. So I'm just trying to get something "local" and not from LI since that's covered. And in cans obviously.

If the other half releases stay on schedule, you should be able to pick up cans from them next weekend to bring with you. probably safe to say those are the best canned beers you can get around here.

Someone that's part of the exchange mentioned them maybe about an hour ago, and I was wondering where I'd have to go to pick them up. Thank you! Any tips on when I should be at the brewery next weekend to grab some?

For can selection I'd check out beermenus.com and see what's around. For other half cans you'd have to go to the brewery in Carroll Gardens. You'd have to go the day of the release to guarantee you'll get some. There will be more news posted on the other half thread when they announce the release. You can always check out the other half Facebook page too.

Oh wow.. Beer Menus is like heaven in app form! That, plus following all of Other Half's social media accounts, should be a great help. Thanks so much!

I love beermenus - as great as BA can be (well sometimes, there's alot of nonsense here too) beermenus.com is indispensable to follow your favorite breweries.

It still mystifies me that it only seems to have become a thing in NYC. Largely ignored everywhere else. Such a shame.

I didn't realize that - I've used it elsewhere in the States but you're right it doesn't seem to be used all that much. It's really a great resource. Simple website, no crap you don't need.

It's also used as an industry resource in NYC, not just a consumer tool. My buddy who reps for one of the bigger NYC distributors tells me that his accounts will check beermenus to get a sense of how to price new labels.

If interested in singles, I'd try Beer Culture... if six packs, I'd just go to a Whole Foods.

Buying cans of beer from a "NYC brewery" is no easy task if you want something with a smaller footprint than Sixpoint. If you're dead set on it, you could go for Kelso or Bronx I guess.

    Available where?

To the OP: If you have a car, you could also drive up into Westchester to the Decicco's Armonk, where they have a crowler machine. They often have local stuff on tap (both Hudson Valley and NYC beers) and you can load up on 32oz crowlers for the trip. Right now they have Other Half, Peekskill, Carton, Captain Lawrence, Yonkers, and Great South Bay all from around NYC. Create your own cans!

Yeah looks like no where atm. They were pouring from their cans this past week-end at the NYC craft beer fest.

Maybe beermenus needs its own thread here. I've discovered alot of new bars and restaurants in town by following my favorite beers. Everyone should have a listing.

Good Beer in the East Village and City Swiggers Upper East Side have very good can selections.
