Not a brewer here but curious, from a brewer's perspective, what advantage do you see for beans from that source rather than one of the other places they might be sourced?

Glad you asked. We tried many different kinds, and through experimentation and research we found the Madagascar Vanilla Bourbon had the most intense, highly aromatic, rich, oily, buttery, luscious flavor and perfume of any one we could get our hands on. Almost too intense...to the point where we had to use it with careful restraint!

Thanks. The reason I wondered is that from some of the cooking guides I've seen, the other two major varieties are recommended more for when you want the Vanilla to play the staring role, whereas the Bourbon vanilla works better for when you want it as a strong part of the supporting cast and want to have it to play nicely with the other team members.

(I personally don't think a lot of folks see the parallels and similarities between brewing and baking or cooking....)

it absolutely is like baking or cooking...working with cereal grains, spices, and heat transformations to create a symphonic blend of aromas and flavors!

And also the way and points in time at which ingredients may be added. I once came across the bit of information (tour or reading, don't remember) that Calagione at DFH had the idea for trying out continuous hopping from watching a cooking show that featured the a chef regularly adding an ingredient throughout the cooking. The rest, as they say, is history.

Edit: Also having done a bit of sourdough bread baking has helped me greatly in understanding things like Lambics and why some argue the name should only be used for the beers from a particular region of Belgium....

@Sixpoint Great news! This just supports my claim that Sixpoint is a model brewery. Thank you for listening to the community.

Probably Resin, with Hi-Res a close second (this year's was better than last year's  lol). Also enjoyed 3Beans, though it's not a style I drink often.

My favorite is the crisp, then Jammer closely behind. Still looking to find their dark beers.

I also came here to say I never got to try 3beans and am now very excited after reading the thread. I love sixpoint.
