Runyon's is right next to Haute Dish.

Like I mentioned earlier, Runyon's is fantastic if you like traditional wings. My friend and I went around to a multitude of places in the twin cities for wings and like them the best by far (obviously just an opinion). They do have a few standard taps, so you can enjoy something like Two Hearted while you eat.

I also recommend you MN folks who haven't tried it out to give it a shot.

Unless things have changed recently, there is no law against public intoxication in Minnesota.

I think Whitey's, across the street from the Bulldog NE, has the same wings as Runyon's - at least the used to. Whitey was a bartender at Runyon's long ago and so has the recipe.

Thanks for the update. I've been keeping a watchful eye on some of the other threads, for the possibility of new places opening up by June. Sounds like there are some possibilities. Only 2 more months to go!

Pizza Luce and Northbound both have solid wings and good taps. I have heard Ray J's in Northeast is good for wings too, but haven't sampled - they do have a good beer lineup. These places probably fall in the good category, but not world class like Runyon's sounds to be.

    also:
The thing that you can get slapped with when biking drunk is disorderly conduct or public endangerment (catch alls). BUIs and public intoxication don't technically exist in MN, from what I've read in the past about drinking and biking.

I finally leave for Minneapolis on Friday for my big beer/baseball trip. A couple more questions came up which are associated with walking around the area. Basically, it's about bridges. Between Day Block and Town Hall, there is a bridge that crosses over highway 35 W. Is this bridge pedestrian friendly? I would assume it is, but it's hard to see for sure on the google satellite imagery. Similar question for St Paul. If I'm heading down to The Muddy Pig, Happy Gnome, or Red Cow, I can get off of the light rail at either Dale St. or Western Ave., then head south. There are bridges that cross Highway 94. Are those pedestrian friendly? If not, we can just cab, but I figure that someone may have tried that walk before, since it's a little less than a mile.

On another quick note, when we get in early, our room probably wont be ready, so we are going to head out and grab some lunch in the downtown area. We are probably going to be hitting up all these places eventually, but what would be the best on for food, as far as quality or value go: Day Block, Town Hall, Republic, or Crooked Pint Ale House. Thanks!

Sorry I can specifically help with the walking thing, but I would recommend using google maps and use the walking mode. It will show you the fastest route and help you know if a bridge has pedestrian path.

Food at day block is really good IMO but the beer is lacking. Townhall and republic also have solid food. You can walk across 35W easily on Washington as well.

Yes, there are sidewalks going across the bridge.

Ditto, sidewalks on those bridges, too. And though it's improved greatly over the last 20 years or so, the neighborhood just south of Dale/94 isn't the greatest to be walking through at night. Not terrible, but not sure I'd want to be walking through them somewhat inebriated!

Best food: Republic. Best value: Crooked Pint. Best combo: Town Hall. Day Block's food is good, Republic's is excellent but on the spendy side, Town Hall's is really good, Crooked Pint has basic TGIF fare, not really worth it IMHO.

Enjoy. There's been some marvelous baseball being played at Target Field that last few weeks!

Thanks for the updates. I figured they were able to be crossed, but I just wanted to make sure. And we will be there in the late afternoon on Saturday, so even if the neighborhood is not the best, we shouldn't have any issue. But good to know. The twins have been a great surprise this year. Hopefully the place is packed on Friday and Sunday when I go. And hopefully the rain stays away. Also looking forward to trying the Freehouse and Fulton right before Sunday's Game.

It's a rougher neighborhood to be sure, but if you have some city experience it isn't anything to be fearful of. Just use your Spidey Sense, be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. During the daylight hours it's at worst weird, as in you may run into some stares and the random "character". Have fun, I'm excited to see what you think of our fair cities.

Go to republic. They'll have something from every local brewery that distributes, amazing overall tap list

Thanks. This week can't go fast enough. Last question, or at least I think. Places like Red Cow and The Bulldog have multiple locations. Is a certain location better than another or are they all about the same? I just wanted to make sure if one location is better than the other, I go to the right one. Thanks again.

I would put all of the Red Cow locations on the same level but all Bulldogs are not created equal. NE is independent of the other locations and may be the best. Uptown has some crazy tap takeovers though. Downtown should be skipped (go next door to Butcher and the Boar's beergarden instead) and I can't really speak on the at Paul location

Walked from Day Block to Town Hall many times (including last night), perfectly pedestrian friendly. I'm an out-of-towner as well (though here almost every week for the past 2 and a half years). At least once a month I do the Day Block (the pretzels and pizza are very good, and there's usually at least one beer that's quite good), Town Hall, Republic combo and if I'm still sober/not tired since this is during the week) head down to Acadia or Nomad. Also have walked from the Green Line to Happy Gnome/Red Cow and have had no issues at all.

You ain't kidding... I go into the Bulldown downtown fairly frequently since its right next door to Butcher & Boar and figure I might as well stop in to see if there's anything interesting. Rarely is and I head over to McKenzie's (which I haven't heard anything about in here and is... maybe worth a look as they do have some interesting taps usually) or Devil's Advocate to get a last beer.
